The earliest of Salvador Dali's paintings was titled Landscape Near Figueras (1910) when he was around six years old. It features, like the title implies, a landscape outside of his hometown of Figueras. It was done with oil on a 14x9 postcard.

While not exclusively gay, he admitted to having a number of gay relationships. Yes, he was married to a woman; but that is not proof of anything, either.

It is clear from his paintings and his writings that he was very much in love with his wife, Gala.

Still, just because he was in love with his wife, doesn't mean he wasn't gay. Because gay men can love women, and will marry them to hide behind, when they are fearful enough of their true nature.

The melting watches symbolize the irrelevance of time, and the idea for time as a theme came from an experience Dali had in a dream. This also symbolizes Einstein's theory of Relativity in that time is relative and not fixed.

The idea for the melting watches actually occurred to Dali when he saw some melting Camembere cheese on a hot day.

The creature in the middle of the painting is a self portrait of Dali himself.

There is a watch that is covered by ants on the table. Ants symbolized death or the female genitalia for Dali.

The surroundings are drawn from Cadaqués, a town i Spain.

Dali made a new interpretation of the same painting later in 1954, called "The Disintegration of the Persistence of Memory". In this painting the original seems to be falling apart, and you can see something below the pieces of the original. There is a fish below the surface in the back. In contrast to the original, the fish represents life in this painting.

The color theme is also different, with a warmer color scheme and more red tones.

The disintegration of the original painting is an idea that symbolizes quantum mechanics and Einstein's Theory of Relativity.

Salvador Dali attended the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Madrid.

There were multiple paintings in which Dali depicted William Tell, or included William Tell in the title of the painting, such as The Enigma of William Tell and William Tell. In these paintings, Dali uses William Tell to represent his own insecurities about his father, and the ability of a father to willingly put his own son in danger, as Dali feels his own father did.

Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was a famous Spanish painter. He painted his famous painting Sleep in 1939. Some experts believe that since Sleep was painted during Spanish Civil war so it gives a message that sleep was the only time people of Spain got some respite from hardships of life in those days of war.

One very famous picture with clocks is called "The Persistence of Memory." It features melting clocks and was painted by Salvador Dalí.

It is the title of a book, written by Dalí himself. You can buy it at a bookstore or borrow it from a library.
