All four planes were originally headed for cities in California (Los Angeles, and San Francisco). The first hijacked plane was diverted into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York, and the second plane flew into the South Tower on live television. The third plane crashed into the U.S. Pentagon Headquarters of the Department of Defense. The fourth plane was headed for an undetermined target in the Washington D.C. area, but resistance from the passengers, who had learned of the fate of the other hijacked planes through cell phone conversations, caused the hijackers to crash in a nose-dive fashion into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Nearly 3000 victims and the 19 hijackers died in the attacks. According to the New York State Health Department, 836 responders have died as of June 2009. Among the 2752 victims who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center were 343 firefighters and 60 police officers from New York City and the Port Authority. 184 people were killed in the attacks on the Pentagon. The overwhelming majority of casualties were civilians, including nationals of over 70 countries. In addition, there was at least one secondary death - one person was ruled by a medical examiner to have died from lung diesease due to exposure to dust from the World Trade Center's collapse.

Yeah it was, it was shot down by an F-16 fighter jet, Dick Cheney gave the order to shoot down flight 93, it was a very tough decision for him to give the order. so he decided to and in effect put a flying combat air patrol up over the city; F-16s with an AWACS, which is an airborne radar system, and tanker support so they could stay up a long time, "It doesn't do any good to put up a combat air patrol if you don't give them instructions to act, if, in fact, they feel it's appropriate", The president made the decision...that if the plane would not divert...as a last resort, our pilots were authorized to take them out. Now, people say, you know, that's a horrendous decision to make. Well, it is. You've got an airplane full of American citizens, civilians, captured by...terrorists, headed and are you going to, in fact, shoot it down, obviously, and kill all those Americans on board? "...It's a presidential-level decision, and the president made, I think, exactly the right call in this case, to say, "I wished we'd had combat air patrol up over New York."

On Sept. 11, 2001, WTC 1 and WTC 2 were struck 16 minutes apart by Boeing 767-200ER aircraft. WTC 1 was hit at 8:46 a.m. by American Airlines Flight 11, and collapsed at 10:28 a.m. WTC 2 was hit at 9:02 a.m. by United Airlines Flight 175, and collapsed at 9:58 a.m.

The oldest person known to have died in the September 11 attacks was 85 year old Robert Grant Norton. He was a passenger on Flight 11, which was hijacked and crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center.

United Airlines Flight 93 was en route to San Francisco International Airport before it was hijacked on 11 September 2001.

The planes crashed into the Twin Towers because they were deliberately flown directly into the buildings.

Boston

The three locations of 9-11 are a field in Pennsylvania, the Twin Towers in New York City, New York and the Pentagon in Washington D.C.

The Twin Towers (official name World Trade Center) - along with the passengers and crews of the two hijacked jets that were used in the attack - were destroyed on Sept. 11, 2001 by terrorists from the extremist Islamist group al Qaeda, the core element of which was run by Osama bin Laden (before he was killed by U.S. Special Forces soldiers in May of 2011.)

Simultaneously, al Qaeda terrorists also attacked the U.S. Pentagon building with another hijacked jet, killing the passengers and crew along with many military and civilian employees at the Pentagon. The terrorists also hijacked a fourth jet which was headed towards Washington, D.C. before passengers fought back, with the jet crashing in rural Pennsylvania, resulting in the deaths of all passengers and crew.

Al Qaeda attacked and destroyed the Twin Towers because they (falsely) believe that the West (i.e., the U.S. and Europe) are the aggressors in a (non-existent) war upon the people and Islamic nations of the Middle East. To them, the Twin Towers, which were home to many U.S.-based and foreign-based financial institutions, as well as numerous other corporations, symbolized the U.S., our economy, and our capitalist system. Likewise, they view the Pentagon as symbolizing the U.S. military.

In relation to the September 11 attacks ground zero is the site where the World Trade Center once stood in Manhattan. Although there were impacts elsewhere this is where the majority of the damage and deaths occurred.

Sort of it is called the Freedom Tower or One World Trade Center which is built in the same spot to recognize the Twin Towers
