What is the bottom of a skateboard called?
most of the time there is no design on the bottom of a skimboard
According to answers.com: " Tech Decks were actually invented by a 12-year old Californian skateboarder named Steven Asher on a rainy day in 1998. Obviously unable to skateboard outside, his idea was to bring it inside. With his imagination, he created 3-inch cardboard replicas of real skateboards and drew graphics on the bottom to enhance their realism. Steven's father, Peter Asher, coincidentally was a toy industry veteran, and used his son's idea as a brand new toy wave, and thus Tech Deck was born. Steven insisted that Tech Decks were to represent the real thing; real metal trucks, real grip tape, real graphics and real wheels. "
What equipment do you need to play skateboarding?
When it comes to improvement, there is no substitute for practice. If you want to skate better, you gotta skate.
With that said, the efficiency of every move and motion in skateboarding, or whatever your chosen sport is, can be improved upon by breaking it down into smaller sub-systems.
Almost every single sport out there (chess and Warcraft don't count) require some combination of stabilization, balance, strength, endurance, explosive power, speed, quickness, and agility.
Improvement at the sub-system level will translate to better skateboarding by providing enhanced physical capacity, and it's resulting effect on the ability to complete a given move or motion.
Stabilization is the ability to control the body both statically and dynamically. Stabilization occurs throughout your whole body in many different ways. Stabilization of the core unit and at the ankle are especially important for skateboarding.
Balance is a state of equilibrium; a state in which the body has the ability to move in space in a controlled movement. You need it for obvious reasons. Balance obviously improves with practice and nothing can replace that. However, better balance in the gym will improve balance on your skateboard. Many companies offer products to enhance balance training. Who do you think does better on a skateboard? The athlete with better balance or the athlete with less?
It shouldn't be ignored, but...
Strength is extremely low on the skateboarding fitness list in terms of usefulness. Training for strength and training for power are completely different workouts. Power is one of the most important elements of skateboarding fitness.
Power is the ability to exert muscular strength quickly. When you see someone ollie really high, they are using power. Again, training for power is VERY different compared to training for strength. Significant improvement will only be realized by using proper training methods for power.
Speed and quickness is the ability to move the whole body quickly. I can't think of a single athlete in any sport that wouldn't benefit from being faster. Being faster gives you an edge over a slower opponent. Speed rules all. Speed can be improved with proper training. You can never be too fast.
Agility is the ability to start, stop, and move the body quickly in different directions. Definitely useful for a skateboarder in a variety of situations. The more agile athlete obviously has that advantage over his opponent.
Each of these elements should be targeted specifically to realize improvement and enhance your ability to perform.

What are risers on a skateboard for?
Risers raise the board up so you don't get wheel bite (when you turn and the wheels stop against the board, ending in a face plant). They're similar to shock pads, which are more rubbery. They're mainly used by vert skaters, because skating vert requires larger wheels, thus, increasing the chance of wheel bite. Honestly...if you get wheel bite coming down on a 16 ft ramp, its gonna hurt. i wouldn't recommend it for street skaters, especially if you skate aggressively, because you will probably just crack the board before you get any use out of it. Basically, use em if you skate more vert, but avoid them if you skate street. VooDoo13: I agree, but also disagree.....Wheel bite is bad, and yes, unless you crank down on the kingpin so it won't move if you're using 57mm or larger wheels you'll probably need risers...The use of shock pads(also called 'soft risers'), however, I feel, are benefcial to the life of your deck. I'm not sure why annyone wouldn't recommend them.. it's a preferrence sure, but to stay away from them on the street? Hmm, not sure about that one. I use 'em on all 8 of my street decks. All are 1/8" so it's not going to thow off any trick by adding that tiny bit of height. Hard risers I only use on my vert deck and they're a big old school 1/2" , but they're another story for street.. Shock pads even at 1/8" lessen the stress at the points where the deck meets the truck, therefore decreasing the potential for splitting your wood around the bolts or even cracks on the base of the tail and nose..This is why they call 'em "Shock Pads".. They Pad your deck from the Shock(of the landing).
How do you know your skateboard wheels size?
There two main measurements - width and length. Depending on what kind of skateboarding you are into, sizes varies. For street style it's usually 7''- 8''. Many have found that 7.75'' as the mainstream, however many 8'' are made today. Length is important as well, but it's not so common to be mentioned. As far as I know, only Baker and Reinbe decks publish their width and length measurements, so you might want to check them for length measurements. But usually it's around 32''
Other two measurements, are nose and tale length. That is important thing if you're skating. Tale is shorter then nose.
Hope that this will help you.
Can skateboard trucks be used on long boards?
It depends. Without going into too much detail, all trucks are essentially the same, aside from length. If a truck is too short for a board, the wheel will hit the deck and cause wheel-bite. Wheel-bite can stop your board entirely when making a turn, potentially causing injury. If you can't afford to purchase longer trucks, buy some risers. Risers go in-between the deck and the truck to lift the deck and prevent wheel-bite. Just make sure that you purchase corresponding hardware to accommodate your new risers. Good luck.
Why do skateboards have grip tape on them?
To put grip tape on a board you must first take the tape off of the plastic/wrapper. Then you put it on your board try not to get any air bumps. Then cut off the extra tape on the sides with a knife or maybe scissors. take some of the extra grip tape and file down the edges. Then take your screws for the trucks and push them through the holes. After that just attach the trucks, wheels, bearings, risers, and hardware and you're good to thrash.

What are the three kinds of skateboarding?
Professional skateboarders know that for optimum performance, aside from their skill level, the type of skateboard they use makes all the difference. For amateurs, all skateboards may appear to be created equal, but there are a few different skateboards to choose from. These skateboards basically differ in their various lengths and concave depths.
There are two main types of skateboard: long and short. The different shapes of both long and short skateboards is very important as well. For expert tricks, the skateboard must be concave, which refers to the curve of the board in relation to the raised nose and tail of the skateboard. A concave board is especially important for performing difficult tricks, such as an Ollie. An Ollie is a jump that begins by tapping the tail of the skateboard and sliding the foot to the front of the board in the air.

Why not to buy Walmart skateboards?
Voodoo 13: Many people that skate like to flaunt their new 'name brand' boards.. I have dozens of expensive boards, but if you have never skated before Wal mart or target or Toys-r-us is the perfect place to buy a cheap bord to practice on. What if you find that you don't like skatebording as much as you thought?? Well if you spend $160+ for a 'pro' board instead of $40 at the store you wont feel as bad.. Or if you fall while practicing riding and you watch the $160 board roll under a car getting crushed..you really won't feel as bad if you bought a cheap one... I've always said buy cheap until you're ready for a 'name brand' board. Don't let anyone give you crap because it's not from the skateshop.. you're a beginner and your 4 wheels spin on the street the same as the guy who paid big bucks..

What is the most appropriate measure for the length of a skateboard?
A standard board is usally 31-33" long. Usally the shorter the skater the shorter the board. The lenght of a skateboard is personal preference. Over time a skater will find out what size board works best for them. It is kinda hard to go wrong with length any standard board is appropriate.

Are kryptonics skateboards good?
yes, it has all seven layers, but if you buy from the stores like wallmart and target, its not good at all, got no reson y though! got one from there and the trucks were already uneven! icouldnt fix it at all! i got one and its better then my bros birdhouse, i would think that if a skateboard company that has been around since 1960 sumpthin its got to be good!
To do a 360 shove-it, place your BACK foot exactley where you would for an ollie except hang your toes off of the edge a little bit. Place your FRONT foot also like an ollie but a little bit lower and a little bit more towards the front screws. Now this is the most important part of the trick.Scoop it like a pop shove-it, but instead of scooping it back, scoop it back then towards your FRONT foot, this way it will actually get the board to spin. Jump high so the board has a lot more time to spin. Don't be scared to land it because you will never land it
