How do you calculate the penalty for fis points?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

FIS points are calculated based on 2 things. The first part is based on how far off the leader a competitor is (the winner gets 0 points for this part), in Giant Slalom approximately 7 points are added for every second off the leader one is, this number is slightly different in each event. The second part is an average of the current points of the top 5 competitors in the top 10. This is called the "penalty" and it is added to the "race points" mentioned in the first time. However there is no "penalty" in world cup races so the winner of a world cup event gets 0 points (less points is better). On the official FIS list a competitors points are their top 2 points finishes averaged out. This determines the competitors start position in their next race.

Why do you scrape the wax off your ski?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

When you iron in the wax the heat from the iron allows the some wax to absorb into the ski base. The excess wax is then scraped off and ski base polished to expose the waxed base that has been tempered by the wax and is very slippery and fast.

This is somewhat similar to waxing your car once the wax has dried it has a rough finish and is gritty. The excess wax needs to be removed to expose the shiny, slippery finish.

Same thing on the ski base the shinny waxed base is fast.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

you twist your ankles and you turn. then stop and do again the other way.

You never twist your ankles while skiing. If you are capable of it your boots aren't fitting you properly. Your ankles shouldn't move. You do roll your KNEES however. That is carving which is fairly advanced skiing. For the begging you will turn by shifting weight from one foot to the other. I'm assuming you've never skied before because you needed to ask this question. If you want to learn to ski please get a lesson.
