What happens if the power goes out while using a cpap machine?
Some CPAP machines have a backup battery built in to last a certain amount of time. However this is usually only to retain the stored data. If frequent power outages are common in your area, you might want to consider purchasing an external battery unit specifically for your machine. An after market alternative is a Back-UPS unit. That can be purchased anywhere from Wal-Mart, Home Deport, or even a computer store. You simply plug your unit into the UPS unit and the unit into the wall. If the power goes out, the machine will automatically switch to battery power and continue to function for however many hours the machine is rated for. When power is restored, the batter automatically starts charging back up. This is all done automatically and requires no intervention on the user after the first initial hook up.
Does z-quiet work with sleep apnea?
Well, for sleep apnea, yes it does. People snore due to different reasons - mainly jaw constrictions and nasal congestions. Sleep apnea usually has something to do with jaw blocking the nasal passage. Zquiet, being a mouthguard, lifts up your jaw, which is blocking the airway and causing the sleep apnea problem in the first place. So yes, it can be effective.
Check the "Zquiet reviews" in related links below that I just added and you'll understand more about how it works and whether it's right for you. There are also limitations such as people with dentures can't use it, etc.

Why is excess saliva produced when cpap mask is worn?
Nobody seems to know for sure. It is certainly a side effect that is often observed. Some people find that the condition improves with time, others see no change. It may be that the humidification provided by the CPAP keeps the mouth from drying out - you don't get the "dry morning mouth", but you get drooling instead.
Types of salmonella bacteria can be distinguished from one another based on the different arrangement of structures on the surface of the cell - referred to as serological types or "serotypes". Examples include Salmonella Enteritidis or Salmonella Typhimurium. Often these serotypes are given names according to the place where they were first discovered, like Salmonella Saintpaul. It is possible this is how Arizonae got its name.
Salmonella arizonae is a type of Salmonella bacteria that has been associated with reptiles. There have been illnesses in people who have kept reptiles as pets.
No it doesnt cause this complaint.
There is no pathological nor epidemiological evidence that shows sleep apnea alone causes gout and the cure of sleep apnea is the cure for gout.
The Sleep journal provides a great disservice to the public, especially to the gouties, by publishing such a misleading and fraudulent medical claims in the Letter.
Will mold allergies influence sleep apnea?
Allergies are a big cause of sleep apnea - your throat and nasal tissues swell with allergic reactions, and that impedes your breathing.
Why is it so hard for some people to use CPAP for Sleep Apnea?
The answer lies in the Sleep Equipment Itself, I am convinced of it. My name is Steve Yates, and I have Sleep Apnea...The answer also lies in the knowledge of...what is this stuff, what is this supposed to feel like!!! I have Sleep Apnea, and have dedicated my life to helping people become compliant, happy CPAP user's operating CpapforMedicare.com, a Medicare approved provider of specialty sleep equipment. Ok, the first thing that must be understood after being diagnosed with a Sleep Disorder, is the fact that if you are a non-compliant or even a "partially compliant CPAP user" you must understand the LIFE THREATENING RISKS associated with CPAP non-compliance and you have explained the risks to your family too! If you haven't done that you may not ever see the benefit of CPAP Therapy as it relates to a longer, happier, more fruitful life. Just be able to understand what non-compliance means! It can be any number of things depending on what is bothering you most! Get that fixed, and then move to the next issue that may be bothersome, and problem solve all the way down to a hose management system such as the HoseBeGone. I would say the first two problem areas with CPAP Equipment are: * The CPAP device itself...is it comfortable? Does it seem to deliver too much or too little air? Neither is right, you may want to ask your Doctor or Technician if you can try an Auto-Set Device to see if the pressure determined in the lab is similar to what the AutoSet indicates. But only if your pressure is bothering you or you feel it is not right (don't be afraid to speak up)! This could be your life we are talking about here! * The Mask/Nasal Pillows Systems/Interface or whatever delivers the air to your body! If it is not right, you are not right! Make sure the person who fits you at least understands what "Style of Sleeper You Are". All interfaces attempt to make a seal on your face, around your nose, in your nose, in your nose and around your mouth and probably the least desirable but necessary for some...oral appliance (kind of like a Snorkel in your mouth!)
How are mild cases of sleep apnea treated?
For mild cases of sleep apnea, simple measures may suffice, such as losing weight through a diet and exercise program, or preventing the person from sleeping on their back.
Can sleep apnea cause A1C levels to increase?
Indirectly, this often occurs. In the case of sleep apnea, it is difficult for the individual to obtain stage 3 and 4 restful, deep delta wave sleep, due to the frequent lightening of sleep into stage 2, as a result of the multiple apneic episodes. As a result, there is usually significant daytime fatigue. The individual often compensates for the daytime lack of energy by consuming excess calories, typically in the form of processed carbohydrates (candy bars, sweets, sodas, etc.), and by doing so ends up gaining weight and becoming pre-diabetic and then overtly diabetic. In this sequence of events, hemoglobin A1C levels rise.
Can your cpap machine pressure be too high?
Yes. Excessively high pressures will cause the mask to leak and affect the CPAP's performance.
Why does blue cross allowed amount for cpaps not cover the cost of the cpap?
Blue Cross Blue Shield has many different plans. These plans each have different benefits. What is covered under one BCBS plan may/may not be covered under another. It all depends on how the plan was built by whomever your insurance is provided through.
Many BCBS plans do cover the cost of a CPAP machine based on medical necessity.
I would contact your BCBS plan using the member benefits number found on the card and ask them if the cost of a CPAP machine is covered under "YOUR" benefits.
How much does a sleep apnea mask cost?

What is Aflex technology for CPAP users?
Aflex is a form of Auto CPAP. Auto CPAP reduces the pressure in the mask when you exhale. A-flex (I think this may be a term used by Philips Respironics) allows the difference between inhale and exhale pressures to be varied.

What causes foul smell from CPAP machine?
Usually something in the device needs cleaning. Start with the air filter at the intake, and work your way up through the reservoir, the hose, and the mask. Clean everything with warm soapy water, rinse with warm clear water, and then dry thoroughly before using. If the smell persists, consult your sleep therapist or machine provider. Most insurances will replace the parts periodically --reservoir, hoses and mask/nose pillows - at no charge to you.
What to do if nose burns from cpap?
Discuss the problem symptoms you are having with your physician or respiratory therapist. Most likely they will be able to help rectify the situation.
