It was at least made before 1964, as they don't have serial numbers. Mine didn't anyway. It also doesn't work...

These shotguns were made by savage/stevens between the years 1986-1989.There was no accurate records kept of the serial numbers as to year of production.

First we have to determine which Springfield Meteor your rifle is. Springfield manufactured and sold several different rifles under the Meteor name. Additional description such as barrel length, action type and any additional markings is needed to help narrow it down.

I have a 12 guage side by side that reads on the left of the receiver: J Stevens Arms Company. next line. Chicopee Falls, Mass.U.S.A. ... above it --SPRINGFIELD-- It has double triggers. It has on the bottom of the barrel locking lug a stamped 7 and a faint circle with an S in it. I have determined it was made 7/1967 based on an A being 1949. The receiver is charcoal case colored. the barrels say SELECTED FORGED STEEL and the other side says PROOF TESTED 12 GUAGE. It is a neat old piece i received with the barrels a bit rusted, but rescued in a rust dissolver bath(auto industry) and have since sanded and painted flat black. I added white out to the front bead, cleaned up the inside if the barrels and gonna use it as my field gun for pheasant this fall. I hope this helped.
