Can ferrets play with dogs and sugar gliders?
The ferrets would likely attack and kill the sugar gliders. Our ferret is the most gentle animal imaginable, has never been taken hunting or anything like that, yet the first time she saw a possum she went straight for its neck.
Whereas with dogs, even small dogs, she is just friendly and inquisitive.
Ferrets playing with dogs depends on several factors, such as size, the breed of dog, etc.
Sugar gliders and ferrets may not be compatible.

Why are sugar gliders so expensive?
Sugar gliders are not meant to be kept as pets. They are a wild native animal of Australia, and never meant to be kept in confined cages. It is perhaps hoped that, by being expensive, only those people who will truly value the animal and care for it properly, will actually buy it, instead of just having it as a token exotic pet. On the hand, the expense of a sugar glider is probably due to man's simple greed. As long as people are willing to pay a lot to say, "Look at this tiny delicate creature I am keeping locked up this cage so I can show it off to my friends", then others will profit. It should be noted that Australians themselves see no need to keep such a delicate creature as a pet. We prefer our sugar gliders to remain in the wild, where they belong.

Do you have to have two sugar gliders?
It is highly recommended to get two sugar gliders. The reasoning is that sugar gliders are colony creatures, and therefore do better when they have another glider friend. In fact -- sugar gliders that are kept as singles often self mutilate, overeat (or under eat -- neither are healthy), and/or over groom. It is also very commonly observed that single sugar gliders groom less, are less active, meaner, and less healthy than sugar gliders that are kept with a companion.
You should also realize that keeping two sugar gliders is no harder than keeping one... It's actually a lot more fun to have two!
