Does a general surgeon perform plastic surgery?

  • Physicians and surgeons diagnose illnesses and prescribe and administer treatment for people suffering from injury or disease. Physicians examine patients, obtain medical histories, and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. They counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive healthcare.
  • There are two types of physicians: M.D. (Medical Doctor) and D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine). M.D.s also are known as allopathic physicians. While both M.D.s and D.O.s may use all accepted methods of treatment, including drugs and surgery, D.O.s place special emphasis on the body's musculoskeletal system, preventive medicine, and holistic patient care. D.O.s are most likely to be primary care specialists although they can be found in all specialties. About half of D.O.s practice general or family medicine, general internal medicine, or general pediatrics.

What SAT score is required to become a neurosurgeon?

Your SAT score has nothing to do with becomming a neurosurgeon. Your SAT score gets you into undergraduate school. Toward the end of your 4 years in college you take the MCAT. Assuming you do well enough on that to get into medical school, (around top 30-35% or so) you must do well in medical school and take another test, USMLE Step 1 after year 2. Now, a lot of factors are involved in getting a neurosurgery residency. You class rank in medical school, your Step 1 scores, any research you have done, letters of recommendation, and your clincial grades during your 3rd year of medical school all matter. It also matters that you are in allopathic school. (M.D.) Yes, D.O's can be neurosurgeons, but it is much harder for them to get a residency in this competitive of a residency. The match results are way better for "U.S. allopathic seniors." Meaning in this country (not the carribean) and allopathic (not a D.O.)

So, by this time, you are 2 tests and at least 10+ years removed from the SAT. Nobody cares about your MCAT score when applying for a neurosurgery residency, let alone your high school SAT score.

What instrument will the surgeon need the very second the incision is made?

Surgical incisions are planned based on the expected extent of exposure needed for the specific operation planned. Within each region of the body, several incisions are common.

Head and neck
  • Wilde's incision - This post-aural incision is used for a variant mastoiditis drainage, and was named after Sir William Wilde, an ENT surgeon in Dublin who first described it at the end of the nineteenth century. His son, Oscar Wilde's, death was stated by his doctors to be due to meningitis stemming from an ear infection. He had recently had an operation, believed by some to be a mastoidectomy.
Chest
  • Median sternotomy - This is the primary incision used for cardiac procedures. It extends from the sternal notch to the xiphoid process. The sternum is divided, and a finochietto retractor used to keep the incision open.[1]
  • Thoracotomy - A division of the ribs from the side of the chest.

What can you do if your new partial plate has a metal material on the roof of your mouth that causes a gag reflex?

Your partial plate needs to be adjusted by your dentist. I also wear a partial plate and the metal part that fits on the roof of your mouth should JUST come behind the hollow of the roof of your mouth. Feel the roof of your mouth with your tongue, and if the metal plate is over-lapping behind that hollow it is too long. Also, if you have gone without partials in the upper, lower or both for sometimes your tongue will spread, so when you get new partials it has a tendency to push the tongue back in place causing a gagging relex. This will go away as you adjust to your new partials. Please discuss all this with your dentist as something can be done about it to make you more comfortable. Good luck Marcy

How much does it cost to have an oral surgeon expose impacted canine teeth and put brackets and chains on them?

In addition to considering the cost of such a procedure, you need to think about the considerable hygiene issue you're suggesting. How do you plan on eating food with such hardware present? How do you plan on effectively cleaning such hardware? From Muse314159 - Chicagoborn, this is an oral surgery procedure. It is not a cosmetic or body jewelry question. The canines might be impacted, and there is a procedure to cut (expose) the cuspids, attach a gold button to each tooth, and a small chain that is then connected to the rest of the stuff. A small elastic thread is fixed through a loop on the chain, and as the cuspid is pulled into position, the thread is moved up to the next link and the dangling link cut off. Once the tooth is in position, it can be aligned for the rest of the orthodontic treatment. I've heard everything from $1500 per tooth on up to expose and ligate (add the bracket and chain).
