Difference between short and long course swimming?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Short course swiimming is done in a 25m or 25yd pool while long course swimming is done in a 50m or 50yd pool. Short course swimming is usually faster due to the greater number of turns when you have the ability to push off the side.

The difference will depend on the quality of your turns. For Olympic standard swimmers it will usually make approximately 1 - 2 second per 100m.

What does a child gain from swimming?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I am a 12 year old that swims and I love it! I think I have gained being physically fit, learning to listen, and also to relate to other people by doing something we both love! I have also gained self confidence, and pride. I would reccommend swimming to anyone! ---- Aside from the above, children who are taught to swim gain confidence in the water. You never know when they might need that confidence. If they can swim and float, they'll never drown in water. Better to have those tools and never need them, than need them and not have them. Also, maybe one day someone who swam as a child (or even an actual child), will save the life of a non-swimmer, child or adult.

How do girls put on swimsuit?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

you wear it tight so it doesnt fall down when your swimming. also, paint your nails to match your bikini =] also, it depends whats style bikini you have... but abmercrombie ones....your hair should be in a bun..it looks good! hope i helped!

Edit: You wear a bikini that flatters your body type -- if you are older or your bust is very large or saggy, wear something with support and shaping, or at least LIFT (not strapless). If you're young and very small-busted, long triangle styles, halter styles, and bandeau styles look very good. If you're young and your skin is firm, you can wear almost any bottom type regardless of your weight and it will look good. If you've had kids or lost a lot of weight and you have loose skin on your belly, make sure you have a bottom which is high enough to cover it or low enough that it won't hit right in the middle of the loose skin.

A necklace or two makes most bikinis look better. If your bikini is elegant, a simple gold chain with a charm is good. If it is a surf style, bead and shell necklaces work well. Have something -- shorts or such -- to throw on over it which goes with the bikini.

How many laps in a 25 yard pool is 5000 yards?

since 1 meter is equal to 1.094 yards, then one lap (one direction) in a 25 meter pool is really 27.35 yards. So then 500 yards at 27.35 yards a lap, you would need to complete a little more than 18 and a quarter laps (18.2815 to be more accurate).

What is a 200 medley relay?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A medley relay consists of four teammates doing a 50m of each stroke (backstroke followed by breastroke followed by butterfly and finally freestyle).

This differs from the 200 Individual Medley, which has a different order for the strokes: butterly, backstroke, breastsroke, freestyle. The primary reason for the change in order is that backstrokers start in the water as opposed to on the blocks. This makes it difficult (if not downright impossible) for a backstroker to start in the middle of a relay when another swimmer is trying to finish his/her leg. So, for relays, backstrokers are moved into first position.

Who founded swimming?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The sport of swimming mainly dates back to prehistoric tmes in its origin. The paintains made in cave walls revela it was active during stone age which can be traced to around 7000 years ago. The documented evidence can be found from 2000 BC with the help of initial reference eing recorded as the Iliad, Beowulf, Gilgamesh, the Bible, the Odyssey and some other sagas. The first swimming book to be published was in 1538 A.D by a German professor The book was called 'Der Schwimmer Oder ein Zwiegespräch über die Schwimmkuns' and translated in English as 'A Dialogue on the Art of Swimming' or 'The Swimmer'. In 1800, Europe was the first to start competitive swimming with breast stroke becoming the most notable form. In 1902, the modern freestyle features such as flutter kick and the overarm strokes were first developed by an English man called Richard Cavill. Later it emerged as a main sport which was included even in the Olympics.

Hope this helps.

No it fills with a thin layer of water between your skin and the rubber. The body warms this thin layer and then keeps you warmer by insulating you from the cold water.

A survival or dry suit has elasticated neck, arms and leg bands which do keep you dry.
