In the phrase "Be this the whetstone of your sword," the term "whetstone" is used metaphorically to refer to something that sharpens or hones a particular skill or quality. The expression suggests that the subject or situation being discussed serves as a test or challenge that can help improve or sharpen one's abilities, character, or resolve.
So, when someone says, "Be this the whetstone of your sword," they are essentially saying that the current situation or task is an opportunity to test, improve, or refine one's skills, character, or determination. It encourages the individual to rise to the challenge and use it as a means of self-improvement or growth. This phrase is often used to motivate or inspire someone to face a difficult or challenging situation with determination and the goal of becoming better as a result.

I'm a full time restaurant cook and I always steel serrated knives before I use them. I've run into a consideralbe amount of dumb prejudice doing this - that doesn't work, you're wrecking it. But none of that I find is backed up by my practical experience. Use steel. it works. I just cut 600 slices od baggettte for a party next week and the abused little bread station knife I used cut them clean and thin after being on the steel.
Additional comments from a knife collector - Steeling in general does improve the edge, serrated or not, however the improvements comes not by sharpening, but by realigning the deformed edge. This can work several times, but eventually the deformed metal particles are lost, due to metal fatigue effect, and you will need to really sharpen it, steeling will have no effect.
Detailed information on steeling including micro photographs is in the related links section.
As for the actual sharpening, wider serrations can be sharpened using either triangular or rod type sharpeners, either ceramic or diamond ones will do. Sharpening is done primarily on the serrations side, about 70-80% of the strokes will be on the serrates side, flat side just needs few light strokes to remove the formed burr.
Spyderco sharpmaker has triangular rods suitable for serrated knives. It's in the demo video as well.
DMT produces dedicated serrations sharpener(diamond conical rod) and another triangular sharpener, which is also very suitable for serrated edges. DMT also produces several rod type diamond sharpeners of various grits, those also worked very well for serrations.
Smaller diameter ceramic rods, like those found on Edge-Pro sharpening system also work well for serrated knives.

Traditionally, swords are made by blacksmiths. Of course, they can be made in factories as well.
You need to get the Rainbow shell from Deaths Claw in 600 AD. Then you need to get the moon stone from the sun temple in 2300 AD and beat the son of the sun then you must go back to 65 million BC and put it in the sun shrine. The blue Umbrella Silly Band is 25 cents and can be bought as a group of 10 or in the Build a Pack offer of 24 bands for $4.00(USD). It is readily available, and therefore NOT rare.
Not very well, if you want a colored blade it's best to mealtime down and stain the metal then forge a sword yourself although this is hard in this day and age you will need lots of room a forge an anvil and a sanding belt. Then you will need the tools and hammers.
When you are looking to buy a sword the best thing you want to do at first is think what you want to use it for. The reason you want to do that is so that you don't buy the wrong type of sword for what you really want. Believe me, I made that mistake and broke my first sword. So to make sure you don't make the same mistake I did, I am going to give you some advice.
First off I will tell you what each metal is for:
STAINLESS STEEL: Basically, the only reason you ever want to buy a stainless steel sword is either if you want it to break in half and cut you really bad, or if you are smart and know that it is ONLY for display and to look pretty for decoration.
CARBON STEEL: This metal is good for a nice edge that will stay on your sword and is what most would call, "a functional sword" and in fact, it is functional so if you are on a budget it is definitely the way to go.
FLEXIBLE STEEL: This metal is extremely good quality and will hold out a long time and even keep an edge fairly long. The only problem, IT IS EXPENSIVE! If you really want to go all out this is really the way to go because it is very flexible henceforth flexible steel.
I hope I made your choice easier and good luck! Buying a sword can be a hard choice so try to get more references also! If you are looking for swords try all around to find the sword you want also think about the kind of sword you want before you buy it! For instance, I prefer Japanese style katanas. Good luck! =)

I don't know if it is the best for making swords, but in a sword like a katana, I usually hear of Tamahagane being used. I was actually looking at other questions, like the strongest metal for a sword, and people say Tungsten since it's the strongest metal known, from what I've been reading, might be lies though.
ask a professinal. Thier are so many factors to determine the antique sword. You have not mention in what respect you want as in sharpening of blade? It is better to refer a person who knows everything about a sword from its blade to how to handle it.
It depends what is wrong with it. Though you could replace the broken internals, the easiest solution is to throw it away and get a Nite Finder or Maverick.

Thomas Becket, the Archbishop of Canterbury, was killed by knights wielding swords on December 29, 1170, inside Canterbury Cathedral. The sword used to strike the fatal blow is believed to have been wielded by Reginald FitzUrse, one of the knights involved in Becket's murder.
Zoro receives his third sword, Sandai Kitetsu, as a gift from Ipponmatsu, a swordsmith, in Loguetown after his previous swords were destroyed. He later acquires a stronger version, Nidai Kitetsu, during the Wano Country arc.

The use of a sword as a world wide sport is called fencing. This sport is featured in the modern Olympic games and has originated in African continent.
Better is relative. First, contrary to popular belief, the katana-style sword with a blade on the concave edge was not invented in the manga/anime Rurouni Kenshin. This type of sword, called a kutto, actually predates the tachi/katana by hundreds of years. They appear in the Kojiki (Record of Ancient Matters, 712 CE) and Nihon Shoki (Chronicles of Japan, 720 CE), where two such swords, called Futsunomitama-no-tsurugi ("swords of spiritual power"), are used by two ancient warriors to conquer the Sword nation of Ookuninushi-no-mikoto. They were feared and revered swords, and are still regarded as Japanese national treasures. These swords were originally meant to be used as much in a one-handed as two-handed grip, since shields were still in common use in the Japan of that time.
As regards effectiveness, it is not so much a question of better or worse as different. A concave blade is perfectly effective, as easily demonstrated by the ancient Dacian falx, the Iberian falcata, the Greek kopis, the Turkish yataghan or the famous Nepalese kukri knife. Aerodynamically, it cuts through the air slightly better than a convex curved blade, making for a slightly faster cut. For this reason, it is better for a chopping cut, and for one handed use. However, a convex blade (standard katana) is more naturally designed to be drawn along someone as it cuts, and is therefore more intuitive to use in a traditional Japanese two-handed draw-cut.
As regards those actually available for sale, all the so called 'reverse-curved' katanas on the market are on the lower end of sword quality, as far as functional swords go. The US$24.99 variety are 440 stainless steel, worthless as a functional blade. The better varieties, made by Musashi and Masahiro respectively, are 1045 carbon steel, (even if the say 1060) which is the minimum standard for a functional cutting blade. Being only a medium carbon steel, the edge will roll against something as hard as thick bamboo, but are fine for cutting mats, pool noodles and plastic jugs. Of the two, the Musashi is both better and sometimes cheaper, with the Masahiro being inconsistent in quality. One sword will be good, and the next not. Finally, there is a rather more expensive model by Rittersteel, made from 1050 steel. Having a slightly higher carbon content, (.5% vs .45%) it would be expected to be a bit harder.
