He didn't even start TAG Heuer he started Heuer which became TAG which is short for Techniques d'Avant Garde, again French (TAG is a company out of Luxembourg) not German. So although tag does mean "day" in German there is no connection to anything German in this part of the company's name. Also, Heuer does mean "this year" in German it doesn't have any bearing on how his name is pronounced now. Just as the American or English name Smith is pronounced "smith" as we know it to be and not smythe or whatever we can trace the word back to, Norman or Anglo.
