When he makes the decision to go into the camp disguised as a Jew in the end, he forces his whole faily to cross the line and realise how this is wrong. Is there a The boy in the striped pajamas 2?
Yes, it is a good book for people, I would say, 10+. Although not explicit, it deals with the tender subject of the holocaust. There is no profanity or sexual content, and little violence. It's sometimes odd taking the recommendation from a stranger online, but this is truly a moving book.
In fact, it is a marvellous book filled with sadness and adventures. This book would not be recommended to a nine year old because the main character Bruno meets another boy exactly the same age as him which is nine and become best friends which is one of the biggest mistakes a German boy would do because that boy was a Jewish and his name was Shmuel. This story was in the year 1943 when all of the Germans were enemies with the Jewish.
(megsammyh) i also would like to add that my 10 year old cousin watched the movie and was crying hysterically. Some of the language of the time and everything going on may confuse or frighten someone under 10, I agree.
help!

What is the genre of 'the boy in the striped pajamas'?
The Holocaust
The themes are justice, The Holocaust and curiosity. Bruno is a curious boy and he is very naive, has very little understanding of the Holocaust. The book is looked apon from a child's view and everything seems confusing and unfair. Especially to Shmuel, because he doesn't see how Bruno can be complaining about where he lives. Bruno's new house seems like such a luxury compared to Auschwitz where he lives with thousands more. It is based on justice.
"Friendship can be found anywhere, no matter who you are and where you come from."
Edit:
One could also talk about how Bruno was able to find hope in his life despite his difficult circumstances. Also, one could discuss how innocent Bruno was.
he main themes of the novel include (but are certainly not limited to):
1. The innocence of childhood. Bruno and Shmuel share a great deal in common but perhaps what is most striking is the childhood innocence which characterizes both boys. Bruno is unaware that his father is a Nazi commandant and that his home is on ther periphery of Auschwitz. Shmuel, imprisoned in the camp, seems not to understand the severity of his situation. When his father goes missing, Shmuel does not understand that he has gone to the gas chamber.
There are several themes in the book but forbidden friendship is definitely the main one. also how brutal and cruel the war is and of Jewish people were treated with no respect.
Even the most horrific events can disappear through denial. Even though they lived doorsteps away from the stech of the burning flesh, they ignored the events that were happening around them.
