The Great Gatsby

Klipspringer calls Gatsby's house as a social gesture to maintain his connection to the wealthy and glamorous lifestyle that Gatsby represented. He is self-serving and opportunist, seeking to benefit from his association with Gatsby even after his death.

The main theme of The Great Gatsby is predominantly one of the pursuit of the American dream. Many of the characters including Myrle, the Buchanans, Gatsby, and Jordan each seem to be overwhelmed with attaining wealth and power.

The Great Gatsby has many themes including love, money, social class, the American Dream, Violence, Honesty, etc. Reading the book a second or third time will clear up any mystery of the themes Fitzgerald included in his timeless novel. My favorite theme from the book is social class. The theme shows the social classes are divided in America much the same way as they were in Britain in the 1920's. Gatsby is trying to break into the elite upper class to win back a former love interest, Daisy Buchanan.

The description of Gatsby's house as grand and ostentatious reveals his desire for wealth, status, and the trappings of success. It reflects his longing to impress others and create a facade of success and sophistication, highlighting his outer image as opposed to his true self.

The mystique surrounding Gatsby is that of wealth, glamour, and mysterious origins. He is portrayed as a self-made man with a questionable past, who hosts elaborate parties yet remains elusive and enigmatic to those around him. Gatsby's obsession with Daisy Buchanan and his ultimate demise contribute to the enduring intrigue and fascination with his character.

Gatsby disappeared after meeting Tom Buchanan because he realized that his dream of being with Daisy was unattainable and that she would always choose Tom over him. He also saw that their reunion was causing more harm than good, so he decided to remove himself from the situation.

direct quote: "It was the kind of voice that the ear follows up & down as if each speech is an arrangement of notes that will never be played again." he means that her voice had a unique quality that made it seem like she spoke like an angel.

When Nick asks Tom where he had heard that Gatsby is a bootlegger, Tom says "I didn't hear it. I imagined it. A lot of these newly rich people are just big bootleggers" (114). Gatsby is very visibly successful: he displays an ostentatious opulence in his parties, his house, and even the way he dresses. Tom distrusts anyone who could have so much money and show it as Gatsby does. It would annoy Tom that anyone could "get rich quick," and he would immediately attribute doing so to talents that are unsavory or at least denigrate the talents any other many might evince. That is why he says "just," indicating success as a bootlegger does not count as real success. Tom is prejudiced, narrow minded, arrogant, and violent as well, quick to criticize others, especially if it makes him feel more powerful, more manly.

In "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Henry Gatz learns about Gatsby's funeral from a newspaper article. He reads about it in the Chicago paper and arrives at Gatsby's mansion to attend the funeral.

In Chapter 4 of "The Great Gatsby," Gatsby invites Nick and Daisy to his mansion for lunch. Daisy is hesitant at first, but Nick convinces her to go. Gatsby hopes that this meeting will give him an opportunity to reconnect with Daisy and show off his wealth and luxurious lifestyle.

The scene with Pammy shows Gatsby the reality of Daisy's life with Tom Buchanan and their daughter. It makes Gatsby realize that Daisy has her own family and responsibilities that he cannot simply erase. It serves as a reality check for Gatsby and deepens his understanding of the complexity of Daisy's situation.

Gatsby and Fitzgerald both met vital women to their lives at dances, and both while they were stationed at camps in the army. Gatsby met Daisy at Camp Taylor in Illinois, where they danced and fell in love. However, after Gatsby went off to war, they never got back together again. Fitzgerald met his wife, Zelda, at Camp Sheridan in Alabama. Instead of going off to war (his regiment was ready to go to Europe, but the Armistace came before they could leave the States), he went to New York to get enough money to marry Zelda. In the movie version, Daisy tells Gatsby that "Rich girls don't marry poor boys." This line was taken straight out of Fitzgerald's life. The father of his first love, a young woman by the name of Ginevra King, supposedly told him that after Fitzgerald asked for Ginevra's hand in marriage. There are many other similarities between F. Scott Fitzgerald and Jay Gatz (Gatsby)- keep your eyes out for them!

the purpose of the last meeting with Jordan was for nick not to be careless like tom and daisy . unlike tom and daisy he wanted to clean up after himself . he also wanted to try to get her back, but he found out that she was already engaged.

He thought his parties were classy fun and extravagant. He thought it would be the sort of thing they were used to attending and enjoyed. He didnt realize that his parties were too low class for Daisy and Tom (in particular, Daisy) who come from old money

Meyer Wolfsheim is a character in "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. He is a shady and mysterious figure from Jay Gatsby's past, known for his involvement in organized crime and bootlegging during the prohibition era. Wolfsheim is a symbol of the corrupting influence of wealth and power in the novel.

Nick's second cousin is Daisy who is married to Tom, used to date Gatsby who Nick lives next door to. Daisy and Tom are friends with Jordan who attends Gatsby's parties. Tom is having an affair with Myrtle who is married to Mr Wilson who kills Gatsby at the end because he ran over his wife but it was really Daisy.

Gatsby does not keep in touch with Daisy when he goes off to the war in the novel, The Great Gatsby as he wanted to be remain focused which caused him to excel. This is the man reason why Daisy started having an affair with Nick as he did not understand why Gatsby would not come directly to her after the war.Ê

Daisy was not innocent in the Great Gatsby, she merely presents a facade of innocence.. She is irresponsible having an affair with Gatsby whilst married and on top of this she has a child. Her goal is too appear innocent in her 'white dress rippling' to present herself with a perfect facade of both wealth and status, yet beneath it all she is filled with sadness and the monotony of her everyday life. Yet what portrays the peak if her guilt is when she kills Myrtle in the car and allows Gatsby to take th blame.

Nick sums this is up at the end of the novel explaining 'Tom and Daisy were careless people, the smashed up things and creatures then retreated back to their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together.'

Gatsby has meticulously planned every detail of the reunion day with Daisy, from ordering flowers to preparing a lavish feast. He does this because he wants to impress Daisy and show her his wealth and success, hoping to win her heart once again. Gatsby has spent years dreaming of this moment and is determined to make it perfect to finally be with Daisy.

Guests who attend Gatsby's parties do not seek out the host to thank him for his hospitality. Most guests use Gatsby, and they do not reciprocate in any manner whatsoever. Nick Carraway is the exception to the rule. Nick's manners are much better than those of the upper-crust guests from the East Egg and elsewhere. Guests, who think they are superior to others because they come from old money, show their bad manners by not thanking Gatsby and not reciprocating in kind.

Tom meets Myrtle at a train station in New York City where they strike up a conversation and begin an affair. This chance encounter sets off a series of events that impact the other characters in the novel.
