When you get to the part before the goron village, and after the section with the cabin, there will be giant snowballs on the ground. I recommend transforming into a goron and rolling around to break open all the giant snowballs. In one of them will be the poor Elder.

You don't need to do that. There are easy ways to solve all puzzles early on in the game. If you have arrows and regular bombs, you can make bomb arrows by pressing Z when prompted while selecting bombs out of your inventory. If you don't have either yet, either you are attempting the puzzle the wrong way, or if the puzzle isn't required, you can wait until later to get these items.

There's a passageway in the large room you're in, that you can't reach. But there's a little orange target on the ceiling of the doorway, use the clawshot to shoot at the target and then drop down to the passageway.

If you are talking about the palace of twilight you have to find a sol and when you get near the smoke it will go away but be careful because the hand you take it from will try to take it back. There are two sols and when you get them and place them in the front of the palace in the holes the sols will transfer there energy into your sword so when you have you sword out it will go away.
