The statue of the Little Mermaid in Denmark is a bronze sculpture based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale. It is located in Copenhagen, specifically on the Langelinie promenade. The statue is a popular tourist attraction and symbol of the city.
Presumably Flounder is a flounder, although he doesn't look like one. Flounder are bottom-feeding fish: they are flat fish that swim parallel to the ocean's bottom and surface (in other words, they appear to lie flat on one side in the water). And they have two eyes on their top side (because the other side is perpetually facing the ocean floor).
They are creepy-looking fish (mostly because of those two eyes right next to each other on the top side). Google "flounder fish pictures" and you'll see what I mean.
I would guess that the Disney animators made Flounder physiologically inaccurate because real Flounder are so creepy, and also for practical reasons: a flat fish that lies on one side is an impossible film character. In order to see the fish's "face," the camera perspective would have to keep switching to a top-side view (looking down from above the characters).
The rest of the time, the flounder would appear as a horizontal line floating in the water next to the other characters.
The Grimm Brothers didn't write it. The tale was created by Hans Christian Andersen, and the original had sci-fi overtones. Mermaids live three times as long as humans but dissolve into the ocean at the end of 300 years. Some effervesce prematurely, like Ariel. She dies in the original for violating taboo on race-mixing.
The song "Kiss the Girl" was sung by the American actor Samuel Wright who voiced the part of Sebastian the crab. Peter Andre recorded a version for his 1998 album "Time" (Japanese release) & also released it as a single in 1998.

A young mermaid princess named Ariel falls in love with a human from the surface world. She makes a deal with a sea witch to give herself legs so that she can visit him on land, but her father King Triton forbids it, as he thinks the human world is evil. Ariel goes behind her fathers back, and agree's to the sea witches terms, then starts a new life on land with Eric, the human boy whom she was in love with. However, the sea witch tricks her, and tries to marry Eric before Ariel can. The sea witch takes over the underwater kingdom, until Eric defeats her. After seeing him save his kingdom, King Triton is convinced that not all human are evil, and allows Ariel to live on land with him forever.
There are two:
1. That race mixing is okay, the mermaid married the human.
And 2. To follow your dreams no matter how hard it may seem. The little mermaid had to overcome her fathers disapproval, losing her voice and defeating Ursula to achieve her dream of becoming human and marrying Price Eric.
The time is "once upon a time" and the setting is in a fairy tale.
Halle Bailey is an American musician and actress. She started her career with her sister, Chloe, performing cover songs on YouTube as a duo under the name Chloe x Halle. In July 2019, Disney announced that Halle would star as Ariel in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, prompting some controversy over the casting decision.
Born in Atlanta on March 27, 2000, Halleâs profile rose considerably when the Chloe x Halle cover of Beyoncéâs âPretty Hurts" went viral in 2013. To date, the video has more than 17 million views. The sisters released two EPs, including the Grammy-nominated The Kids Are Alright, and they starred in Beyoncéâs visual album Lemonade alongside fellow internet sensation Zendaya. In 2018, Chloe x Halle opened for Jay Z and Beyoncé during the U.S. leg of the On the Run II tour.
While developing their audience on YouTube, the sisters appeared in several films and television shows, including Last Holiday and ABCâs Grown-ish, a spinoff of the popular sitcom Black-ish.
However, Halleâs most prominent role by far is her upcoming lead in The Little Mermaid. When Disney announced Halle as Ariel, some fans decried the decisionâHalle is African American, while the Ariel of Disneyâs 1989 hit is a white woman with red hair and blue eyes. Within hours of the announcement, the hashtag #NotMyAriel was trending on Twitter.
Many fans insisted that their outrage wasnât racist, but rather a call for an âaccurate" portrayal of the beloved character. Some noted that the original Little Mermaid fairytale was written by Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, implying that a black actor wouldnât be appropriate for the role.

— Ariana Castro (@Unicornkittyari) July 6, 2019Some celebrities quickly defended the casting choice, including Jodi Benson, the voice of the Ariel in the original animated classic.
"I think that the most important thing is to tell the story," Benson said during an appearance at pop culture convention Florida Supercon. "And we have, as a family ... raised our children and for ourselves that we don't see anything that's different on the outside. And I think that the spirit of a character is what really matters. What you bring to the table in a character as far as their heart and their spirit is what really counts."
Rob Marshall, who will direct the upcoming film, also defended the young actor.
"It was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substanceâplus a glorious singing voiceâall intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role," he said.
Freeform, a network owned by Disney, released a tongue-in-cheek statement aimed at the new Arielâs detractors.
âAriel...is a mermaid,â the channel wrote on social media. âShe lives in an underwater kingdom in international waters and can legit swim wherever she wants ⦠The character of Ariel is a work of fiction. So after all this is said and done, and you still cannot get past the idea that choosing the incredible, sensational, highly-talented, gorgeous Halle Bailey is anything other than the INSPIRED casting that it is because she âdoesnât look like the cartoon one,â oh boy, do I have some news for you...about you.â
For her part, Halle has stayed mostly quiet about the controversy, although she did post a mockup of herself as the animated Ariel on the Chloe x Halle Instagram page. The caption: âDream come true.â

Fantasy. it could have been gusseted-up with more modern Science-fiction overtones- but it wasn"t. There were overtones of Sci-Fi in the Andersen tale. It was understood Mermaids have a natural life span of 300 years then they dissolve into the water - this explains a lack of Mermaid fossils or body parts being found by seamen, etc. a neat touch, like aliens that evaporate or worse on contact.. and the plot device discourages inter-species understanding...

According to the Disney Website, Flounder, despite his name is a yellow and blue tropical fish, not a flounder. He would tell you himself, he is definitely not a guppy.
My thinking is that he is some sort of tang, but I have yet to definitively put a name of the species.
