Pat Gray, veteran broadcaster and WBRC FOX6 News pioneer, has died.

Pat Gray, was a broadcaster on Birmingham’s WBRC Fox 6 news.

In the 1950s and early 1960s, Gray was among the first women in Birmingham to become a star in the male-dominated world of local broadcasting.

Gray grew up in Siluria outside of Alabaster and attended Thompson High School and Ramsey High School before entering the Miss Alabama pageant where “she barely missed winning the crown.” After attending finishing school, she started work as a secretary at The Club, the premiere social club on Red Mountain.

In her two decades on the air she became one of WBRC’s biggest stars working with a number of personalities, including Fannie Flagg and Joe Langston.

It looks like "mutual agreement". Either way its bad for her fans. Also she wanted to be with her children. That was more important.

Essentially, but not fired. Her contract ran out and wasn't renewed. Many individuals in television, like professional athletes, are only signed to contracts of a fixed period. This gives the stations and the personalities the ability to end their association through non-renewal.

i dont know but i wish she was back. Heidi Klum and her "Green Team" can rot for all I care. Kristen Dodd had that next door neighbor thing going for her. Mrs Abernathy was also great. Mark Mancuso was an oddball but still fun to watch interract with others. Alot of the new characters on TWC just don't have that...thing happening. i mean we got to see the women grow their families. it was cool. you got to realize that they were human, not just people on tv with amazing looks. they were like everyone else.

My guess is she's about my age (I'm 28, soon to be 29). But, I can look it up to get more information and get back to this. According to wikipedia.org, she was born in 1979 (same year as me), but there's no exact birthdate, so my above comment still holds true. If someone has more information on her, feel free to comment on this site.

She is about to be leaving now. No official reason has been given, but according to her, the only thing about her work performance that NBC did not like was that she had to leave for military duty at times. Something definitely unpatriotic, if you ask me. It's not like they don't have a large set of people who can fill in...

I emailed the Weather Channel not long after she disappeared from Weekend View, and they confirmed she no longer works for them but, of course, would give no other detail.

I suspect she was layed off....probably trimming back the budget in anticipation of the $$$ needed for the HD upgrade. I suppose she was the most expendable, being the furthest thing from a meterologist on the entire network, but I'll sure miss her. Maybe we'll get lucky and she'll go back to the Daily Buzz.

The Weather Channel has been in a dispute with DirecTV and they have agreed to come back to them. However, they also agreed to change some things about their broadcasting before returning: they have reduced the reality shows by 50% during the weekdays, they have reintroduced instant local weather and they have also agreed to allow DirecTV clients to watch the Weather Channel on multiple devices.

It is not widely publicized how old Kim Cunningham of the weather channel might be. She states that she wanted to work in weather since the age of 11. She is very widely respected for the work that she does on the Weather Channel.
