Yes. Okonkwo is not afraid of fighting or afraid of blood, but he is afraid of having to change. He is afraid of being killed by a white man, so does it himself. For the most parts he is not a coward, but he is a coward in this specific way.

NO NO NO NO NO.... He is not a coward, he is merely afraid of his feelings, they make him feel weak. He wished to be the opposite of his father, a weak emotional man. He kills himself because he was afraid of change and felt that his village was dying/dead.

Yes, the egwugwus are just like judges in today's society. Justice was served the majority of the time. In the example the book gives the reader, a man and his wife go in front of the eqwugwu after the man beats his wife, and "justice is served", because the egwugwu tells the man to stop beating his wife!!

The justice system of the Igbo was to have the egwugwu, the spirits of the ancestors, decide upon the righteous judgment of cases. Only cases that could not be settled otherwise would go to this final court. Judgement is not punitive, but based upon making things right for all parties. The egwugwu are represented by one man from each of the villages.

Later the white men brought their own courts, but this was very punitive based. This system was corrupt, as bribes could buy judgment.

The greatest crime would be killing a sacred egwugwu by unmasking it. This is more of a crime than killing even a holy royal python or a fellow clansmember.
