Thomas Edison started to go deaf at age 12 because when he was selling candy at a train station he started to chase the thrain and a man pulled him up off the track by his ears.

Depends on how you define, "negative impact."

Edison was a vigorous, sometimes ruthless, businessman, and his efforts to maintain a monopolistic hold on technologies he thought were "his" (electrical distribution and movie making, for example) probably delayed non-Edison ideas from flourishing for a few years. The "Battle of the Currents" is an example of how Edison fought to maintain control, and thus delayed the implementation of AC power. However, in most cases, popular demand simply overcame Edison's efforts.

Edison was quite proud of the fact that he never worked on any weapons.

Thomas Edison did not finish high school. He only had three months of formal education before dropping out, and was then home-schooled by his mother.

-The lightbulb Aka that magic shiny glowing bulb that gives of light but does not like to be touched and will burn you if you try to touch it without a glove or towel over your hand.

-The Phonograph, A device made for recording telephone calls for later review by the participants. First made with parrafin paper cylinders, then changed to the more reliable steel discs with tin foil on top.

-The Kinetiscope, An early form of motion picture. Edison got the idea from working with Eadweard Muybridge on the Zoopraxiscope.

-the kinetophone, A kinetoscope with a phonograph in the case so that motion picture with sound overlay was possible although untrained operators led to audience dissatisfaction, leaading directly to its demise.

-The vitascope, A Film projection systyem, deserted shortly after the projectoscope was made, aka the projecting kinetiscope. Projecting systems were made slowly as with single viewer kinetoscope the companies could make more profit, but with a projecter the profit was made far quicker, serving large audiences in the same amount of time it took to serve one person on a kinetoscope.

Incandescent Light bulb, invented an entire system for producing and distributing electrical power. George Westinghouse and Edison teamed up to add innovations that made electricity safer and less expensive. Invented fans, printing presses, electric street cars, and many more less infamous inventions.

He made the world a better place by creating wonderful inventions like the incandescent light and the phonograph. These inventions have led to other inventions aswell.

It depends what you mean by "lightbulb"; Sir Humphrey Davy demonstrated the first electric filement light in 1802, the first practical lighting system - including the bulb, was developed by Edison around 1880, but many other people were demonstrating light bulbs around that time. Edison deserves the credit for creating an entire system for generating and distributing electricity - without that, the lightbulb would be pretty useless.

Thomas Edison's most important inventions are the phonograph, motional picture camera, and electric light bulb.

Thomas Edison's important inventions were the light bulb to help people see, the electric pen for writing, the phonograph and more. His inventions helped people to have more productive days and to be able to communicate more effectively.

He became a famous inventor at 40 years old. His first invention was the electric vote recorder. If it werent for his mother he would be dumb. His mother took him out of school and taught him at home herself and years later Edison said "My mother was the making of me. She was so true, so sure to me, and i felt i must live for someone i must not dissapoint."

Because he stuck to things and saw them to fruition. I believe he tried like 10,000 types of filaments to make the light bulb work reliably. He was a workaholic like very few (perhaps not always a good thing). He would work on something all day sleep a few hours and get up and work on it again maybe all night. He never gave up, if he couldn't get something to work he would go and try something else until it did no matter how long it took he would try and try again.

Edison and his staff filmed short movies for later viewing with his peep hole Kinetoscopes. One-person at a time could view the movies via the Kinetoscope.

Thomas Edisons phonograph (gramophone) was the first device invented that could play recorded audio. The first sound recording device was the phonautograph, invented by Eduoard Leon-Scott in 1857, people had also found was to record audio onto foil, but the phonograph was the first audio reciprocation device.

U.S. inventor. He had very little formal schooling. He set up a laboratory in his father's basement at age 10; at 12 he was earning money selling newspapers and candy on trains. He worked as a telegrapher (1862 - 68) before deciding to pursue invention and entrepreneurship. Throughout much of his career, he was strongly motivated by efforts to overcome his handicap of partial deafness. For Western Union he developed a machine capable of sending four telegraph messages down one wire, only to sell the invention to Western Union's rival, jay-gould, for more than $100,000. He created the world's first industrial-research laboratory, in Menlo Park, N.J. There he invented the carbon-button transmitter (1877), still used in telephone speakers and microphones today; the phonograph (1877); and the incandescent lightbulb (1879). To develop the lightbulb, he was advanced $30,000 by such financiers as j-p-morganand the Vanderbilts. In 1882 he supervised the installation of the world's first permanent commercial central power system, in lower Manhattan. After the death of his first wife (1884), he built a new laboratory in West Orange, N.J. Its first major endeavour was the commercialization of the phonograph, which alexander-graham-bellhad improved on since Edison's initial invention. At the new laboratory Edison and his team also developed an early movie camera and an instrument for viewing moving pictures; they also developed the alkaline storage battery. Although his later projects were not as successful as his earlier ones, Edison continued to work even in his 80s. Singly or jointly, he held a world-record 1,093 patents, nearly 400 of them for electric light and power. He always invented for necessity, with the object of devising something new that he could manufacture. More than any other, he laid the basis for the technological revolution of the modern electric world.

The boy's father was a telegrapher so he gave Edison telegraph lessons. That is one of the reasons why Edison was improving at the telegraph. This also started him to becoming a telegrapher during the Civil War for the Union army.
