Where do Eastern American Toads live?

The tiny frogs are usually found around colder bodies of water. Bugs are limited since the air is so cold, and the frogs have adapted by being super small. In my personal experiences I have seen some that were so small that I killed them when I tried to catch them.

Why do toads wait for a rainstorm to lay their eggs?

It depends on the species. Those that lay their eggs in water do so because the young hatch into tadpoles which must live in the water, using spiracles and gills to breathe, until they metamorphose. Many species of frogslay their eggs in water, but not all do e.g. the Corroboree frog.

How do you tell how old your toad?

It first depends on what toad you have, but lets example this with an American Toad. A young or baby Amaerican Toad is about the sizer of one or two quarters. A juvenile is about as bif as your thumb. Both male and female American Toads as juveniles somewhat have the same color, rusty or brown. But the male will have BARELY a bit of green on his back. As an adult, females are as big as your hand, while a male is half that size.

I hope this had helped.

How do toads get warts?

Since toads don't cause warts - this is a well-known fact, don't bother thinking otherwise - you don't need to do anything to get rid of warts from toads.

No need to remove what you haven't got.

You might still have warts though, only you've gotten them from someplace else. Usually another human.

It's easy to get rid of warts. There are both OTC methods that work rather well, and there are things doctors can do to remove warts.

Are toads male and female?

  • Female toads are generally larger because of the many eggs they carry.
  • Females have thinner arms than males, which have stronger, muscular forearms.
  • During the breeding season, male toads have dark "thumbs" or metatarsal knobs on their front legs. These extra rough patches enable them to clamp a female during breeding season. (The thumbs return to normal once breeding season is over.)
  • Male toads are noisier, as the females make no sound.
  • During breeding season, the male's throat sac is darker.

Well, There are many ways you can tell the gender of your toad but the most common way is to LIGHTLY tap your toad on it's back, if it croaks it's telling you that its not calling at this time( which only boy toads do). Another way you can tell is by observing your toad closely atleast twice a day, if you do this chances are you will find a month were its calling( as I said before, only boy toads do this) but if you observe it daily and it doesn't do this, that means its a girl, Also boy toad's thumbs are very big!!!

Are common Toads also known as American Toads or their scientific name Bufo Americanus poisonous?

They are poisonous, but to humans it is harmful. I have been squirted in the mouth with the poison multiple times. Nothing happens. It is just extremely bitter, so anything that preys on them would want to spit them out.

What is a frog or toad specialist called?

This really depends on how strictly you define 'generalist' and 'specialist'. Some frog species would be better classified as generalists, others specialists. No frogs come to mind, but an example of an anuran that is a generalist is the cane toad or marine toad, Bufo marinus. This toad is native to Hawaii but was introduced to Australia in 1935 in an attempt at biological control. The toads were supposed to eat the cane beetle, but when faced with far more palatable food, had no impact on the beetles whatsoever. They quickly spread out of control and are now a widespread pest. The cane toads are so successful because they are not specialists at all. They will breed in any water that is not too turbulent, including slightly brackish water and mud puddles. They will eat anything and I mean anything. They are intelligent and resourceful. I have personally witnessed them climbing a chickenwire fence to lick spiders out of their webs. I am not joking.

Generally speaking, most frogs are probably specialists. Most frog species have a relatively small range of temperatures and habitats they can tolerate - unlike the cane toad. Many have specialised diets to the point of only eating one or two species. Many also have highly specialised breeding habits. Many poison dart frogs (Phyllobates, Dendrobates, Epipedobates species amongst others) will only breed in bromeliads. Eliminate the bromeliads and the frogs die out. This is definitely specialisation.

Toads that live in hot dry regions bury themselves in the soil during the day What them of biology does this phenomenon describe?

I had the same question in Biology)

The theme that explains it is Homeostasis.

An organism unable to balance its internal conditions could become ill and die. They bury into the sand because it is cooler under it. The sun heats only the top part of the sand. So that way they can keep their body temperature they way it should be.

How do you keep a toads in a bucket?

Things You'll Need:• 10 gallon+ tank

• Dirt

• Mulch

• Small, shallow water dish

• Food (Worms, Crickets, grasshoppers, flies, etc.)

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF A TOAD

First, you'll need to get dirt thicker than the toad so it can burrow into the dirt for sleeping.

Then, sprinkle mulch on top of the dirt.

After that, take your water dish and dig it into the dirt so it's like an ingrown pool. TIP: Don't get a deep water dish or else the toad might drown.

Then, put the toads food into the tank so the toad can practice hunting like it is in the wild.

After that, put your toad into the tank and your all set!
