What is the uniqueness of triceratops?

The three horns (made of bone, instead of usual ivory or keratin) on its head, the frill, and in some ways, the pelvic bone. It had a ball-and-socket joint instead of a pivot joint connecting its head to the neck vertebrae. This was the only organism in the fossil record to have this adaptation.

When did triceratops become extinct?

At the end of the Cretaceous Period, 65 million years ago.

How did the triceratops die?

The most common theory is that a meteor striked the earth around 65 million years ago. The meteorite strike caused a dramatic change in weather that killed the plants and all the dinosaurs along with it. This was due to plants dying, therefore being no food for the dinosaurs.

Why did the triceratops die?

Current best guess is a meteor strike 65 million years ago.

The strike caused an abrupt change in weather (much like the so-called nuclear winter) which killed the plants that triceratops lived on.

So, they starved to death.

What was the triceratops diet?

Triceratops ate plants, and their teeth suggest that they ate tough foliage. Some suggest palms, cycads, and ferns. Whatever they ate was either low growing, or they knocked it down with their horns (like an elephant), because they were not tall (at least in dinosaur standards).

Are there any dinosaurs alive?

Yes, there are dinosaurs alive today and dinosaurs are not considered extinct.

There was a mass extinction event about 65 million years ago, which killed off most dinosaur groups, such as the hadrosaurs, stegosaurs, allosaurs, tyrannosaurs, ceratopsians etc.

So there are no dinosaurs alive today that existed 65 million years ago, like Tyrannosaurus or Triceratops etc, that is, non-avian dinosaurs.

It is now widely accepted by paleontologists that birds are theropod dinosaurs and therefore the group dinosauria has survived to the present.

In response to the first answer, birds are the ONLY descendants of dinosaurs, and no other reptiles.

-Dinosauria.

Actually the closest species to the dinosaur is the Tuatara considering it was around back when the dinosaurs went extinct

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

No, it isn't. The tuatara is a sphenodontian and while members of that clade indeed did exist during the Mesozoic, they were not and are not the closest relatives of dinosaurs (they are no more closely related to dinosaurs than lizards or snakes). The closest living relatives of dinosaurs are the birds (who are actually dinosaurs themselves) and after that, the crocodilians, which are archosaurs (a group to which the dinosaurs belong).

Are triceratops good dinosaurs?

'Good' is a matter of perspective

If you mean good like the opposite of T. Rex which is sometimes considered evil, then Yes.

Triceratops was a very territorial and hostile creature, yet it was a herbivore. If you mean good as a good fighter then they are very good according to this point of view because they are about 30 feet long, the size of a medium sized bus, and they had 3 meter long horns which could pierce through any natural substance except rock, and would kill a T. Rex in one hit to the leg or chest.

What period of the mesozoic era did the triceratops exist?

The Triceratops lived at the very end of the Cretaceous Period some 68 - 65.5 million years ago. To be more precise they lived in the Maastrictian Age the last stage in the Mesozoic Era. It only became extinct in the K-T extinction event that saw the death of all non-avian dinosaurs.

It actually depends on the size and how rare it is. If it is really rare it could be up like $400 a tooth. But usually regular teeth are $50-$200. If it is an almost complete skeleton it could go up to the millions!
