The Tucks are "laid back and relaxed" they don't use napkins at dinner time and don't have many rules, they kind of "go with the flow", they have no worries. Her family is strict and keep a watchful eye on her because she is an only child, they are strict and don't allow her to have much freedom, she is to be a well-mannered, proper girl.

Tuck Everlasting while written for children explores many sophisticated themes and philosophical ideas, most obviously that of immortality. Immortality is very central to both the book and the film. The theme of Immortality is viewed from a very mature angle revealing it to be unnatural and comparing the immortal Tucks with stones stuck at the side of a river, never moving.
