What is the history of typewriters?
The person who came up with the idea of a typewriter was Henry Mill, but in 1866 Christopher Sholes invented the first modern typewriter.Daniel J. Boorstin was the person that came up with the idea of typewriting as a career job for women because he thought that by providing a socially accepted employment for women in the commercial world. Frank Edward McGurrin invented touch typing on July 25, 1888. Dr. Henry Faulds came up with the idea to assign letters to each finger. The difference between Hunt, Peck, and Touch Typing is Hunt and Peck refers to typing on a keyboard using only one or two fingers from each hand. Touch typing is when you type (something) one a keyboard without looking, and with your fingers on the home-row position.
A typewriter contains many levers, as well as other simple machines. Electric typewriters contain fewer than manual versions.
Did Abraham Lincoln have access to a typewriter?
From 1829 to 1870, many printing or typing machines were patented by inventors in Europe and America, but none went into commercial production. Abraham Lincoln lived from 1809 to 1865.
In 1865, John Pratt, of Centre, Alabama, built a machine called the Pterotype which appeared in an 1867 Scientific American article[5] and inspired other inventors. Between 1864 and 1867 Peter Mitterhofer, a carpenter from South Tyrol (former part of Austria) developed several models and a fully functioning prototype typewriter in 1867.[6]
It is conceivable, but unlikely, that Lincoln had access to a typewriter. If he had it is unlikely that he would have been able to use it with any degree of dexterity - he could have written quicker by hand.
How much did typewriters get paid in the 1700s?
The typewriter hadn't been invented in the 1700's. You may be asking about scribes, such as those who reproduced original legal documents for distribution. For that answer, ask in another forum.
Were typewriters invented in the middle ages?
No. The middle ages were approximately before 1400 AD. The printing press was not invented until 1450.
The first actual typewriter was invented in 1868 by Christopher Sholes, Carlos Glidden, Samuel Soule, and machinist Matthias Schwalbach.
What is the value of a 1940 Royal Arrow Typewriter?
The older machines, constructed between 1900 and 1940, will be substantially more expensive than the postwar bargains. An older machine in good functioning order costs around $200. If you live near a good typewriter repair shop, you can find non-working typewriters from this era for $50 or less.

Are smith corona typewriters still in production?
I am looking for an electric typerwriter that has a separate screen on which what I might be typing in a letter can displayed. I currently have a Brother which has the feature but feel it's about to 'give out."
