How does the urinary system remove wastes from the body?

The urinary system filters waste from the blood and produces urine in the kidneys; then it removes the urine from the body. Adults produce about a quart and a half of urine every day, but that amount can vary greatly depending on how much fluid and what types of foods are consumed and how much fluid is lost by sweating or breathing.

Two bean-shaped organs called the kidneys are found in the abdomen, near the back and just below the ribs. The kidneys are responsible for filtering the blood. The filtrate, as it moves through the kidney tubules, is modified to produce urine. The two kidneys lie behind the peritoneum on the posterior abdominal wall near the 12th thoracic and first three lumbar vertebrae. The right kidney is slightly lower than the left kidney. Each kidney and suprarenal gland is encased in a perinephric fat capsule, which is covered by a membranous renal fascia. Paranephric fat lies outside of the renal fascia.

Each kidney is shaped like a kidney bean (surprised) with an anterior and posterior surface. The renal hilum is located at the medial border and allows the renal artery to enter the kidney and the renal vein to leave. It also allows the ureter to exit the kidney. The internal part of the kidney includes a section called the medulla surrounded by a covering called the cortex. The medulla contains minor calyces that merge to form major calyces. The innermost renal pelvis is formed by the merger of the major calyces.

The body needs a way to store the urine until you have a convenient time to urinate (remove urine from the body). Urine leaves the kidneys and travels down the ureters to the bladder is a thin-walled, bag-like organ that can hold up to two cups of urine.

The bladder is connected to the urethra, which is a tube that opens externally through an opening called the external meatus.Sphincter muscles keep urine from leaving the bladder until the person is ready to urinate. The female urethra is quite short, whereas the male urethra is longer and runs through the penis.

Sometimes in the process of filtering blood and forming urine, salt-and-mineral crystals form in the kidneys. These kidney stones can travel down the ureters and into the bladder. The stones vary in size, and in some cases passing kidney stones can be extremely painful. The stones can become lodged in the ureter, blocking the flow of urine and causing a back-up of urine in the kidney. Treatments include medications and the use of lithotripsy (shock waves) to reduce the size of the stone so that it is more easily passed.

Is there any cure for overactive bladder?

Hypo tonic nurogenic urinary bladder can only be managed than can be cured. Intermittent self catheterisation, surgical removal bladder out let obstruction if implemented early when there are bladder contractions sufficient enough to void normally can revive the bladder . However a hypo-tonic bladder having very weak contractions on urodynamics and fail to revive even one year after ISC is unlikely to be revived though theoretically there is always some hope.

This is quite unfortunate that no sufficient and sustained research has been undertaken so far and this condition is highly discouraged by urology experts and nurses .Electrical simulation of sacral nerves is an option, but with limited success. there is no adequate data on the acceptability and success rate of this procedure. This is not available in many developing countries and very few urologists have expertise in this area.

So to say hypo tonic urinary bladder primarily is nurogenic is one of the most unfortunate diseases esp for men. Regular catheterisation have complications like infections, urethral changes including strictures, false passage, epidydimitis , orchitis, rapid development of resistant bacteria due to the need for repeated use of antibiotics.

Unconventional medicine like homeopathy/ayrurveda unani / acupuncture claim that they can treat this condition but supporting clinical evidence e is pathetically lacking.

This conditions restricts the moments, social contacts, travel and one should have toilet map while working out side. Catheterising in unhygenic surroundings is a real problum., Because of the nature of management this disease can trigger frequent dipressive moods.Fortunately Intermittent catheterisation is available as the only option in evacuating the bladder despite its complications and drugs are more or less empirical.Data relating to Research into drugs that can effectively contract bladder is very limited

No. The female urethra is just for urine. Menstrual flow comes from the vagina, which specifically refers to the hole underneath the urethra. The vagina is the same opening that a woman uses for sex and gives birth through.

How do you help a female child urinate for a urinalysis?

1. take off your pants and underwear

2. sit on the toilet

3. spread your legs apart as far as they go

4. with your fingers on one hand, spread apart your lips

5. wipe across where you pee out of with the sterile wipes

6. pee just a tiny bit into the toilet

7. with the other hand, hold the cup up to where you pee out of

8. pee the rest in the cup

Just wipe with the sterile wipe they give you and sit on the toilet and pee into the cup. It's not that hard. If you have wiped and is clean you do not have to spread the labia, in fact you should not touch the area at all after you've wiped it. You can also pee into something else, as long as it's clean, if it's easier with something bigger, and then pour it over into the cup. You can even pee into a empty clean jam jar and bring it to the doctor and pour it over there. The cups used in hospitals are not sterile so the jar doesn't have to be, just clean.
