They used to, but not anymore. The notes were last printed in 1945 and the Federal Reserve began actively taking them out of circulation in 1969. Because of this, any high denomination bill (any bill over $100) is worth quite a bit more than face value to a collector.

What is the value of the new 5 dollar bill?

All urban legends to the contrary, the new purple and gray $5 bill is worth exactly $5.

Rumors about an "incorrect date" started because both this design and the most recent green and black bills carry the same series date, 2006. Series dates cause a lot of misunderstanding because they don't refer to the date when a bill was printed, but instead refer to the year that the Treasury Secretary first took office. The date isn't changed until a new Secretary is appointed (and in some cases not even then). Because Henry Paulson was appointed Treasury Secretary in 2006, all bills printed during his term were dated 2006 regardless of the calendar year or the ink color.

What is the value of a 1966 US 100 dollar silver certificate?

Please don't assume that every old bill is a silver certificate. The last $100 silver certificates were printed back in 1891. The red seal and banner reading "UNITED STATES NOTE" at the top of your bill indicate it's a US Note rather than a silver certificate.

What does series 2003 mean on a 2 dollar bill?

The series date on any US bill means the same thing. Unlike the dates on coins, dates on US bills don't indicate the year it was issued. Instead, the date indicates when a particular printing first started regardless of when the bill was actually printed.

Up till 1974, a "series" normally included all bills with a particular design. The first bills in a series had no letter by the date. When a new Secretary of the Treasury or US Treasurer was appointed, an A would be added to the date. If another officer was appointed the letter would change to a B, and so on. The most extreme example was the 1935 series of $1 silver certificates. The same design was used from 1935 to 1965 and the series letters went up to H.

In 1974 the policy was changed so that a new series date would be used whenever a new Secretary of the Treasury takes office or a new design is adopted. A letter is added only when a new Treasurer is appointed. Because of that, series letters now rarely go beyond B or C.
