A 1935 E silver certificate in circulated condition is worth about $2.00

A nice crisp uncirculated one is worth about $7.00

Despite the series date, the E letter indicates it was actually issued some time between January 1953 and July 1957. At that time it was the practice to change a series date only when a bill underwent a major redesign, as opposed to the current practice of changing dates when a new Treasury Secretary is appointed.

Blue Ink

Silver certificates typically had blue seals and serial numbers. Other colors were used on some very old bills and on bills printed for use in threatened regions during WWII.

That motto was first added to $1 bills in 1957, so it's perfectly normal if it's not on the back of a 1935-E bill.

Serial Numbers A bill's serial number is just a counter so including it in a question generally doesn't help to identify it or affect its value. There are collectors who will pay a premium for bills with low or patterned serial numbers; e.g.12345678 or 00000005

First answer

I don't assume to answer definitively for all Silver Certificates, but for the three (3) that I have in front of me right now, the answer is "No" the words "federal reserve note" do not appear anywhere on either the front of back side. The Silver Certificates I'm looking at are all One Dollar ($1.00) denomination, one each from Series 1957, Series 1957 A, and Series 1957 B.

The District Seal

Many people misunderstand the city shown in the district seal on older bills. Bills aren't printed in each city; the city is simply the location of the Federal Reserve Bank that requested and distributed the bill along with many others in a particular print run. Until 1991 all US bills were printed in Washington; since then production has been shared with a facility in Fort Worth.

Also, the letter in the Federal Reserve District seal is different from the series letter. The district letter (A through L) is a code corresponding to the district's home city. A = Boston, B = New York, C = Philadelphia, and so on through L = San Francisco.

Serial Numbers

A bill's serial number is a counter and a security feature. In most cases it doesn't affect a bill's value or help to identify it. Some collectors specialize in bills with low serial numbers (e.g. 00000005) or unusual patterns (12344321) so these can bring above-average prices.

All Series 1929 US bills had brown seals rather than red. They were issued as a now-unusual form of paper money called National Currency. They were printed in two forms:

• Bills issued as Federal Reserve Notes have the words "Federal Reserve Bank" and the name of the district city to the left of the portrait.
• Bills issued as National Bank Notes have the words "National Bank" and the name of the issuing bank to the left of the portrait. In addition, the issuing bank's ID number is printed in heavy black type on the left and right edges of the bill.

If your bill is a National Bank Note it may be best to have it evaluated in person by a currency expert, because there were many hundreds of different possible issuing banks. While this site attempts to provide the best answers possible, the sheer number of distinct National Bank Notes makes a sight-unseen online evaluation extremely difficult.

While the US did issue a 10,000 bill until the 1940s, it contained no hologram. Thus any 10,000 bill with a hologram is a fantasy issue and is not collected by paper money collectors except as a curiosity and naturally is not legal tender. So perhaps a few bucks at most as a curiosity.

Answer:

The holographic $10,000 bill has a decent value due to its rarity. It was created by a holographic design company in PA. They originally intended it to be a gag gift but Sharper image purchased 1600 of them and placed them in a catalog, shortly thereafter they ordered another 20,000. However the entire thing ran afoul of an 1895 law that made it illegal to reproduce a bill. The law stated they had to be 75% smaller or 150% larger and in B/W, the hologram did not fit these criteria since holograms must be in color and at a one to one scale. The feds, even while admitting there was no possible way to use the hologram, had to follow the law and ordered the remaining stock destroyed. One can assume there was a bare minimum of 2000 of these sold or distributed. The prices seem to be around $250 with some being offered for much higher.
