Vancouver is a hilly city surrounded on three sides by water. Many of the streets are lined with trees and there are lots of green parks. Adjacent to the downtown core is Stanley Park, which is larger than New York's Central Park. The northern horizon is dominated by three mountains, which make for good skiing and hiking less than an hour's drive from downtown.
The climate is mild, with only a few days of snow per year, and warm summers that only rarely get very hot. It rains a lot throughout the year, except for the summer.
The city of Vancouver, BC is part of the GVRD, the Greater Vancouver Regional District.

I don't think there are any direct flights. I have done it via Taipei, Beijing, Honolulu and LA, San Francisco, and LA - Auckland. I think Honolulu was the quickest at 6 hours between Vancouver and Honolulu and 8-9 between Honolulu and Sydney. The LA route isn't too much longer and usually cheaper than Honolulu.
The distance between the above places is approximately equal to 481 nautical miles. To convert miles to nautical miles, multiply the miles by 0.86. This is point to point straight distance. The actual distance will change according to the route.
Low level jobs that are in the fast food industry, or retail work are easily available in Vancouver. Because these jobs are often temporary and filled by students, there is never a lack of them.
