I play as a setter on my team.

My coaches said that the setter is important because they set the ball to a middle, outside, or right side to spike it over the net.

However, I disagree. The most important position on a volleyball team is a D.S. or libero (defensive players- back row). This is because in order to set the ball for the hitters to hit it, you need a good pass. The libero and D.S.'s job is to get all of the mean hits that come over the net onto your side up into the air so the setter can set the ball up for your hitters to hit meanly over the net. If you do not have a good defense, then you cannot have a good offense.

If you do not have a good serve, then you will most likely not make it on a volleyball team because the serve is what gets the ball in play. Once the ball is in play your defense can get it up, the setter can set it to a hitter- or a 10 (back row attack). This is the MOST IMPORTANT PART IN VOLLEYBALL! If the ball does not go in play, you will lose points and the game wont be fun- AT ALL!!!

J.H- I would have to AGREE the libero(middle back defensive player) is the most important. Think about it, the libero not only passes the ball, but he saves the ball the majority of the time. The Libero is a triple threat on his own, due to the fact that it exhibits the player with the most control, which is the main concept of volleyball.

A pass (aka bump, forearm pass, underhand move) is used in volleyball on almost every play. When someone serves it and it is about at your stomach, you want to pass, to lift the ball. If a ball is at your face, you can set without a pass. If it's in the middle, step back to make a pass. You pass on a hit, too.

On February 9, 1895, in Holyoke, Massachusetts (USA), William G. Morgan, a YMCA physical education director, created a new game called Mintonette as a pastime to be played preferably indoors and by any number of players. The game took some of its characteristics from tennis and handball. Another indoor sport, basketball, was catching on in the area, having been invented just ten miles (sixteen kilometers) away in the city of Springfield, Massachusetts, only four years before. Mintonette (as volleyball was then known) was designed to be an indoor sport less rough than basketball for older members of the YMCA, while still requiring a bit of athletic effort.

The first rules, written down by William G. Morgan, called for a net 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) high, a 25×50 ft² (7.6×15.2 m²) court, and any number of players. A match was composed of nine innings with three serves for each team in each inning, and no limit to the number of ball contacts for each team before sending the ball to the opponents' court. In case of a serving error, a second try was allowed. Hitting the ball into the net was considered a foul (with loss of the point or a side-out)-except in the case of the first-try serve.

The person with the different colored shirt is usually the best defensive player on the team, and us called the libero.

You could buy new volleyball net simply by shopping at Walmart, Target or some local retailer store. Although, you could buy them online at sites such as Amazon.com

Another great idea if you are looking for a cheap net is to search for it on eBay or UniSquare. The reason being is that used equipment can sometimes be found in great condition and at much lower prices. Volleyball nets are typically pretty tough and resilient, so they will likely be in good shape.

Another reason to shop at eBay or UniSquare is that manufactures sometimes sell directly to the customer rather than going through a middleman as these are marketplace settings and not retailers.

Practise the control of the ball such as bump, set, spike and of course always your serve.

Serve over the net, and then go lie down where the ball hits. If the ball hits another player, then the player lying down must get up and go serve, and the player who hit her lies down where the other player previously was. If the ball is served into the net or out of bounds, everyone must get up and start to serve again. The object of the game is to get everyone on the team to lie down on the other side of the court. If you also want to practice how well they do under pressure, you can set a clock for a certain amount of time and make the object to get everyone lying down in the amount of time you have set, and if they don't, they must do 15 pushups, run 5 laps, ect.

For 12th grade and under the game lasts how ever long it takes for one team to win best two out of three. To win this they have to get 25 points before the other team and have to win by at least two. In college volleyball and up it is the same except instead of two out of three it's three out of five.

It means you want the ball back from the team that is serving at you. IN other words, you want the ball back so your team can serve.

No a player cannot but there is a loophole. If the player starts their attack behind the 10 foot line, and hits the ball and lands in front of the 10foot line, that is okay. But if they start in front of the 10 foot line, that is not okay and will result in the loss of that point.

On the February 9 1895, a Phys Ed teacher (William G. Morgan) created a game called Mintonette. The game had things from Handball and Tennis. During that time Basketball was extremely popular because it was invented on the same day 4 years ago.

William G. Morgan then decided to write the rules down.

Then an observer came to the school and was fascinated by the volleying game at it's first Friendly match.

The 7 positions of netball are;

GS- Who's main aim is to stay in the 'd' and shout the goals

GK- who's main aim is to stop the other team from getting to goals by using there arms.

GD- Is responsible for helping in the middle third and and defending the opposite team. They are also like another GK in a way but for more distance the GD must be very fit and ready to RUN.

GA- The GA is the shouter and is also a very important attacker. The GA normally stays in with the GS but can go up to the middle third if necessary.

WA- The WA is the attacker. WA is the person who gets the ball from the middle third strait into GA or GS.

WD- The WD is a defender and is there to help GD, GK and C if necessary.

C- the C is the person who runs the most the c can go anywhere but the 'd's which is the to places were the GS,GA can shout. The C Helps all the payers out and has to be on the move all the time. C has to be very very very FIT. And be ready to RUN RUN RUN.

Netball is a very fun game and most people enjoy it have fun:)

AN over hand serve is when the ball is usually thrown then hit while staying above the servers head, the hand is carried back and over the head to hit the ball. AN under hand serve is when a player holds the ball out, and hits the bottom of the ball with the other hand, this motion would look like and regular underhand toss. The overhand serve is used more at the start of the high school level all the way to the professional level. An underhand serve is very beginner.

Well, the obvious one is that you have to get it over the net and that it has to stay inside the two red bars that mark in-bounds, you must not step over the line until the ball is successfully out of your reach and in highschool or professional volleyball you have to jump when hitting it, middle school volleyball you may jump but it is not necessary. That's all I know, if they are incorrect for some reason feel free to question it.

William Morgan invented Mintonette (Now called Volleyball) at a YMCA in Massachusetts.

You only get a point if you served the ball. So it would be the serving team. Only if your team serves and gets it in and if they other team returns it and it keeps going back and forth whatever side it hits the ground first. and whatever side it hits the ground it is the other teams ball unless it was out of bounds.

The volleyball positions start with the setter then the two passers then two front hitters and then tha last position is the setter
