Turkey vultures are very common birds, and their numbers could be in the hundreds of thousands, if not millions.
Vulture are known as scavengers, because flocks typically circle overhead until a dying animal is dead, or until carnivores have left a carcass.
But vultures have very sharp beaks and talons. Killing prey or fighting over food is not uncommon.
Yes, they can. Vultures don't prefer it, but if they are hungry, they will!!!

Vultures do not kill animals but by eating the dead animals, they keep the environment clean. Vultures prevent spread of dangerous diseases like rabies which is very dangerous to the wildlife. Without vultures animal remains would decompose in the open air, leading to increased risk of rabies and live stock born diseases like anthrax.
the vultures use the suns heat to help them fly because if they were somewere cold they wouldn't be used to the heat so they live in hot places where there used to.
They are about 30 " tall, with a wing span of about 6', very close in size to a bald eagle.
Turkey Vulture tend to fly in "packs" although they are actually called Committees.
Black Vulture tend to fly alone or follow Turkey Vulture and steal their finds.
Vultures will not eat the dead of their species. In fact, dead vulture carcasses are used to deter colonies of vultures from area where they should not be.
In north America their are to prominent species of vulture the turkey vulture, and the black vultures.
Wild Turkey Vultures are shy, and lack any real sort of defense except projectile vomit. Black vultures though are much more aggressive, are often found in groups and will sometimes try to kill small weak and dying animals and have been known to attack new born cattle. All in all vultures aren't a common sight depending on where you live, the most harm they could possibly do is eat the carcass of your pet dog or poop in your front yard. In my opinion vultures are the garbage men of the wilderness, they eat any carcasses preventing sickness in other animals.
quickly and poorly written edit?
Turkey vulture are not in danger of extinction, they are the most numerous of the vultures.
Predators such as lions kill there pray, and then eat it. When the lion has finished there meal, they may not have eaten the entire animal. What the lion doesn't finish, the vulture, or other scavenger would.
a vulture lives in a nest in a big huge tree . the shelter is the tree
Yes. Several years ago the California condor went extinct in the wild, but as a result of efforts by conservationists there are now about 200 in the wild.
I think its just that because they eat dead animals from all different trophic levels, they will get that animals toxins, witch means they then have a higher toxin level...
