Adult Male Walruses reach sexual maturity as early as 7 years but typically dont get to mate until they are around 15 years old. Females on the other hand reach maturity between 4 to 6 years. Gestation usually lasts between 15 to 16 months at the end of which a single calf is born. Calves are born during Spring between April to June. The calves weigh between 45 to 75 kilograms (100 to 170 pounds) at birth. Mothers nurse the young ones for over a year and the youngsters stay with their mothers for upto 3 to 5 years.
