Has anyone ever survived falling off of niagara falls?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

A few daredevils have gone over Niagara Falls within a container (usually referred to as a "barrel"). Some of them survived, but several died in the attempt.

Only one person has ever gone over the falls without protection and survived. It was a young boy who was wearing a life preserver. He had been fishing in a boat well above the falls and the motor conked out.

The theory as to his surviving the plunge was the fact that he was not very heavy and therefore the life preserver brought him back to the surface quickly.
