What does a entry level welder make?
I think that it would be very hard to say exactly what a welder would make starting out because of many factors. You did not specify what kind of welding, what area you live in, and what kind of employment (big company, government, automotive, commercial, HVAC) you were working on doing. I did however find some statistics.
The median wage of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers were $16.13 an hour in May 2008.
The bottom ten percent only made $10.85 but it would not take long to have enough experience to be in the median. The top pay range was well over $20.00 an hour and these numbers were from two years ago, and there is a shortage on welders.
How much per hour does underwater welder make?
10-55 dollars an hour
starting is around 20$ per hour for offshore, however you typically receive bonuses for depth, conservation of material, safety, and efficiency. onshore does not pay as well as offshore. 1$ per foot and an additional 1$ per foot for every 50 feet, so say, 75 feet would be 100$, 100 feet would be 150$, 150 feet would be 300$. the bonus for depth goes up as you go down and so does your risk. The deeper you go, the more nitrogen gets absorbed into your blood so for almost all offshore sub-sea welding, you are doing a saturation dive. If you do a saturation dive you are going to be in a hyperbaric chamber, both to compress before the dive and to decompress after the dive. if you are an underwater welder you work on a contract basis, not really an hourly basis.
How does a welder know what electrode he is using?
Almost all electrodes have a series of numbers to tell #1 what the tensile strength of the weld will be, #2 what electrical current to use, #3 what position/s it can be used in (ie: flat, vertical etc.) Ex. E - 7018. E = electrode, 70 = 70,000 lbs tensile strength, 1 = all positions, 18 = AC or DC reverse polarity current. (welding lead +)

Where does a blacksmith heat metal?
Forge: The dictionary even states that it is a forge.
A Blacksmith heats the metal in a forge.
It's DEFINITELY called a forge.
A forge is an open-top fire where metal is heated for smithing or smelting.
A furnace is a closed piece of equipment. It is used for many things, like heating water, fireing pottery, extracting ores, etc.
A Blacksmith does not usually use a furnace, and metal to be smithed is always heated in a forge.
