Witchcraft

This is the category where your questions about witches and witchcraft as a spiritual path should go. Based on an ancient shamanistic way of life, witchcraft is a spiritual system known as "The Craft of the Wise" and were a valuable part of villages and communities. Practitioners were the healers and leaders of their people. Modern witches follow the cycles of the sun, the moon and the seasons of the earth for guidance and knowledge. Most, but not all witches practice some form of magic in its true meaning.

Where did witches get their power?

Have you heard of the Saelem Village. Well then a few girls made up that witches were controlling them with magical forces. One of the girls said she would stop and the other girls nearly had her scentenced to death but she said sorry. Many mmen women and children were hung. This spread to England and throughout the world. Many years later a girl owned up and that is when it stopped.

That is where witches got their powers.

How do you call the book of the witches that have powerful spells inside?

Most practitioners of the Craft have a book or in some cases several books containing their own personal spells. These books are commonly called Grimoires. Some are called Books of Shadows.

The practitioner writes in them, outlining such things as timing - the phase, and house the moon is in; planetary alignments; the day and hour to cast the spell; herbs, oils, elixirs, incenses, stones/gems, and other needful things.

They also include the purpose and wording of the spell, and in some cases the outcome of the spell.

To acquire such a book is to have the beginnings of a very powerful set of spells, but as magic is VERY individual, and each of us is different in our style, power and sensitivities, each of those spells will have to be adjusted, altered and tailored to the practitioner casting it and the subject it is being cast for/on.

Why do witches have familiars?

Familiars are believed to be a physical embodiment of a spirit guide and/or an intermediary between worlds. I personally feel that the concept of familiars is a stereotype. I don't discount that it is possible for a spirit to take the form of an animal and act as a guide or intermediary for a witch but television and books have purported this notion to the point of it being stereotypical. A familiar could be a cat but could also just as easily be a lady bug. The majority of newbie witches feel the need to go out and get a cat name it salem and call it a familiar because they are uneducated as to what it a familiar actually is and are trying to fit into what they have been told a witch is supposed to be. I have been a witch my entire life and have yet to have a "familiar" in the sense that the world thinks of them as. I don't even particularly like cats. I'm more of a bird person.

Is witch ture?

Of course witchcraft is real and of course it does work! Ever heard of Wicca or Paganism? Herbalism, perhaps?

Why do witches cause murders?

The question makes assumptions.

There is no evidence to suggest those that follow a religion that includes witches as a title, such as Wicca, cause murders.

In addition; The medieval concept of witches is simply ignorance and fear, especially of things they were unable to understand.

Such concepts are propagated today by juvenile novels, TV programs and movies. Much of which is incorrect and a corruption of the true facts.

For instance there was never any huge 'witch hunts', nor were witches burned at the stake (though some few were), most were simply hung.

Were Christmas lights a sign of witchcraft?

Witchcraft in Shakespeare's time?

Solid but not exactly an every-day worry. Fear of witches then might be like fear of being hit by lightning now. Yeah, it happens, but usually to the friend of your brother's girlfriend's cousin.

What does a black feather signify in relation to witches?

It all depends on what bird it came from. Unless, of course, it is an inexperienced person taking a spell from a how to book, then, it could either be some form of black magic (described as any magic done on another person without that person's express consent, even if it seems to the person casting the spell like it is a 'good' thing for the other person), depending on the other items involved, or, it could be a spiritual quest into the Great Void, where all answers lie.

Where and when witchcraft is originated?

The origins of witchcraft are difficult to pinpoint exactly due to its long and complex history. Witchcraft practices and beliefs can be traced back to ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Greece. However, the term "witchcraft" as we understand it today emerged during the medieval period in Europe. It is important to note that witchcraft has different manifestations and cultural variations throughout history and across different regions of the world.

Is worshiping Nyx considered witchcraft?

Worshiping Nyx is not considered Witchcraft alone. You are simply worshiping Nyx. If you wish to practice witchcraft research it before aligning yourself with any deities (i.e. Gods/Goddesses). Witchcraft is not particularly a religion and therefore the worship of Gods and Goddesses is not a rule/must, but many Witches do honor their deities.

Why didn't my magic spell work?

There are a lot of things that can effect a spell.

  • Moon phase
  • Proper Supplies
  • Experience of the caster
  • Will of the Universe
  • Energy wasn't raised properly-no circle casted to contain energy
  • Just not meant to happen

You need to consider the following before even casting a spell.

-Does the spell really need to be cast?

-Does this spell cause harm?

-What are the possible effects and side-effects of the spell?

-What is the best time to cast this particular spell?

-What is the spells actual purpose, and do you have underlying intentions?

-Are you in the right frame of mind to cast a spell?

A Quick tip for this, when you write your own spells, there is more energy behind it and if you write it in the way you are planning on casting, it will be easier to work with when the time comes to cast.

Spells not working need help please?

One Pagan's Perspective.

Spells can and do go wrong or fail to work at all for a number of reasons. Wrong timing (working within the correct phase and house of the moon). wrong ingredients (magical substitutions can be very tricky), wrong motives (trying to do spells that is designed to effect anyone but yourself are often doomed for ethical reasons), are just the most obvious ones. Check your heart, check your research, check your book of shadows, you will most likely find your problem.

Nor will they ever my friend, nor will they ever. It is impossible to put a spell upon anyone. The only way that such an evil practice might work is if the person is so weak minded they they come to believe that a spell has been put upon them.

If you think that you are able to put spell upon people then Satan has put a spell upon you, and it is you who are the weak in mind for believing so.

What is the difference between a white witch and a black witch?

There really is no answer to the oft heard question; "What is the difference between Black Magic and White Magic?" or "Are you a good witch or a bad witch." Fact is the magical energies we use are very much like other forms of power. What most people do not understand is that Magic is simply the manipulation of naturally occurring energies by the will and hand of a (hopefully) ethical practitioner.

To help me futher answer this question I will use electricity as a mundane corollary. The energy itself is neither good nor bad. It is in its use that polarity can be attributed. When electricity is used to cook food, heat homes and light the darkness it is perceived as good. When it is used to torture people, damage things or kill someone, then it is perceived as bad or evil. The energy itself is neither, it simply is. In the same way, magical energies are simply there. It is how we draw upon and use the energies that determine how they are perceived.
