The Banca D'Italia did not issue a 500 Lira note in 1979. There were many different issues of this note, so it depends on the actual note and its condition - but in general, they are still commonly found on the collectors market, and not worth much more than $10-$15 in perfect uncirculated condition.

However, they make a fascinating historical collectible, since they are hands-on pieces of Germany's post-WWI hyper-inflation period - in which they were printing their notes (paper money) in denominations on millions and even billions of Marks by the following year!
