Catherine Earnshaw, who later marries Edgar Linton (becoming Catherine Linton), is a "stormy" character in Wuthering Heights. She is ruled by her emotions and passions and is unsatisfied with her life with Edgar, becoming depressed in her marriage. As a child, she is rough and impetuous and often runs off to create trouble with Heathcliff. She loves Heathcliff, but after becoming ill and spending a few months in the Linton household begins to look down upon Heathcliff. Her "foil"--the character with opposite qualities that magnifies the qualities in both characters--is Edgar's sister, Isabella Linton. Catherine and Edgar have a child named Catherine Linton ("Young Catherine"), who marries Hareton Earnshaw (the son of Catherine's brother, Hindley). Young Catherine is as stubborn as Catherine but gentler (more of a mix between the stormy Catherine and the calm Edgar).

The Earnshaws lived in Wuthering Heights, which was an estate. The Lintons lived in Thrushcross Grange. Gimmerton was the surronding village, and Yorkshire was the region in which the two houses and town were located.

Cathy's birthday is also the anniversary of her mother's death (Catherine).

On this day, Edgar Linton goes and visits his late wife's grave.

Therefore, they never make an attempt to celebrate Cathy's birthday, which is fitting for the story.

Nelly was the main person who aided Cathy in caring for Linton, who was her cousin. Nelly was the housekeeper at Thrushcross Grange and took on the responsibility of looking after both Cathy and Linton after their parents passed away.

Edgar was disturbed by the cliffs because they reminded him of the dangerous and untamed nature of Catherine's relationship with Heathcliff. Catherine's embrace of Heathcliff also upset Edgar because he saw it as a betrayal of their marriage and a threat to his own happiness.

Lockwood seeks information about the residents of Wuthering Heights from the housekeeper, Nelly Dean. He tries to get information about the mysterious inhabitants of the house, particularly Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. Nelly provides Lockwood with details about the tumultuous history of the residents and their relationships.

The Earnshaws live at Wuthering Heights, a remote farmhouse on the Yorkshire moors.

Nelly intercepted Linton's letters to Cathy, replacing them with her own made-up versions to manipulate Cathy's emotions. Nelly also lied to Cathy about Linton's health in order to discourage her from visiting him. By controlling the flow of information, Nelly effectively prevented Cathy and Linton from communicating directly with each other.

Cathy's servant, Joseph, had been assisting her in traveling to Wuthering Heights.

Nelly holds a pious view of Catherine as a kind-hearted and passionate person, while Edgar sees her as a spoiled and manipulative individual. Nelly sympathizes with Catherine's tumultuous emotions and romantic entanglements, while Edgar is disillusioned by her behavior and betrayal. Both characters have conflicting perceptions of Catherine's true nature based on their personal experiences with her.

Heathcliff could benefit financially by marrying Isabella, as she comes from a wealthy family. He could gain social status and stability through the marriage, but his motivations are primarily driven by a desire for revenge against the characters who have wronged him.

Throughout the story, Heathcliff becomes more wretched and evil. As a child and adolescent, he falls in love with his adopted sister, Catherine Earnshaw. She realizes that she cannot marry him because of his social status and is unable to express her love to him. He realizes this so he leaves for three years to gain fortune. When he returns he was now in her social class, but she was already married. He grows crazy jealous for her love and vows to make the Lintons miserable. He cheats Hindley out of his ownership of Withering Heights. Years after Catherine's death he kidnaps her daughter and forces her marriage to his son, Linton. Through this marriage, and Linton's closely following death, Heathcliff comes to own both Thrushcross Grange and Wuthering Heights.

they dont have many contrasts, but they have many comparisons.

for example, chillingworth and heathcliff are both out looking for revenge and drive themselves insane for revenge, as they grow weak from wanting it so badly.

they are both gothic/romantic novels, although wuthering heights has more gothic aspects, whilst scarlet letter has more romantic aspects

The 1939 version was filmed on the Olsen Family Ranch in Thousand Oaks, Ca.

The Grange and Wuthering Heights are located in close proximity to each other, within walking distance. They are described as being situated on opposite sides of a valley, with Wuthering Heights sitting on a slight hill above the Grange.

Heathcliff's revenge on Hindley begins by manipulating Hindley's weaknesses, particularly his gambling habits and addiction to alcohol. Heathcliff encourages Hindley's vices, leading to Hindley accumulating substantial debts that ultimately result in him losing Wuthering Heights to Heathcliff in a game of cards.

Heathcliff saves the boy's life by catching him before he falls down the stairs. Heathcliff's quick reflexes prevent Harry from being seriously injured.
