you do not need a permit for a airsoft pistol/rifle because i just bought one a couple of months ago and all they needed was my ID showing that i was over 18, if your not then you need someone to buy it for you that's over 18 and give it to you, there is no legal age to own an airsoft gun just one to buy one. Also you can not bring them out into the public aka walking down the street or in a mall but at your house or your property its ok.

There is not an actual legal limit. I would imagine that the gun shouldn't shoot so fast, as it would actually cause injuries worse than a bruise. I guess that would have to be a pretty high fps. Most airsoft fields have their own limitation of 400 fps. That isn't a stat regulation though.
Your best bet to find out, is to go to your local police department. They know all the rules because that is such a common thing they deal with. Especially with paintball as well. they'll let you know all your local regs as well as where you can play so you're not tresspassing or anything like that.
There are no laws restricting airsoft guns in New Jersey other than someone over 18 must order the guns. Why I Know: I ordered some airsoft guns just a week ago and I live in NJ.
Yes, obviously not in public, but yes, any woods that you may be near would work (as long as you are allowed to be in there). Maybe in your back yard as well if it is big enough.
