It depends on what level of pain you want to deliver and on your gun's fps. Say your gun shoots 480 fps like mine: .12 gram bbs are standard and don't hurt too much, .20 gram bbs hurt more but my fps is reduced, .25 gram bbs are the heaviest you can buy and hurt the most but reduce my fps to about 400 or so.
