Digital technology affects society in many ways. The ubiquitous nature of cellular phones, and the numerous things they can do, is just one way. The interconnectedness of the entire world via the internet is another. The mechanization of labor in the world's factories is another instance of how technology affects society. Most aspects of daily life in 2013 are touched by technology, and our lives are inherently affected by such a change.

I do think modern technology has influence on behavior. Obviously, we want to stay connected with friends and family; that's where social networking sites come into play. But on a larger scale, I think today's technology gives people a generally shorter attention span. I like to explain this using my "calculator example": why do we have to learn how to do math when calculators do the math for us? People like shortcuts; they gravitate towards whatever makes simple tasks easier. So in that sense, when it comes to Google and Siri and smartphones and the Internet in general, people no longer need to, nor want to, take the time to do stuff the "long" way.
