Today we can fit more information into smaller silicon wafers and so technology of the same physical size would have more capacity or be able to fit in more peripheral processors or other chips than before.

Essentially, now technology that would, in the past, have taken up a good chunk of physical space, can now fit into even the smallest of devices and other places of usage.
