The star on Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co. silverware signifies that the piece is made of "extra plate" silver, which is a designation for a higher quality of silverplate. This marking indicates that the item has a thicker layer of silver than standard silverplate, enhancing its durability and resistance to wear. The Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co. was known for producing quality silverware, and the star helps identify its premium products.
I have an ammeter with the inscription "Eldredge Electric Mfg Co, Springfield, Mass" with a patent date of December 22, 1903, so the answer to your question is yes.

WM Rogers Mfg Co, known for its silver-plated flatware and other products, is no longer operating as an independent company. It was acquired by the Oneida Limited in the 1980s, and while some of its products may still be available under the Oneida brand, the original company itself has ceased to exist. Collectors may still find WM Rogers items in antique shops and online marketplaces.

Sir, Ma'am, I was given the original box the silverplate 50 piece silverware that came in with the original certificate of guarantee as a gift from my mother-in-law. I am just wondering how much it would be worth to sell. I also have my great-grandmother's silverware setting in the original case that is over 70 years old. I don't know the manufacturer on that one. I am just curious regarding the WM. ROGERS MFG. CO EXTRA PLATE setting. Thank you for your assistance Mrs. Lori McKnight
