If an area code is unassigned, no one can call it. In order for you to call a telephone number, your phone company's switching equipment must recognize it as a valid number.

- An international number got displayed as if it were a domestic number. For example, a number in Munich, Germany (+49 89 ...), might show up as 498-9xx-etc.
