I been told that a rule of thumb when dealing with the different places is to check the page rank, if the rank is below 5 then you may want to go somewhere else, if the page rank is 5 and above then it is probable that this is a good site to visit and see what they have to offer as far as marketing. I would also check out who owns the site and you can do this through a who-is site.
By doing this you can find out who the owner is and if they have a company name. If there is a company name, submit that name into the BBB on-line to see if there are any complaints on them. If they are not registered with the BBB they will not show up but even at that if there are any complaints filed on them to the BBB then they will start a file on them anyways so it's worth checking.
