there are no secondary up and down keys, however there are a few tips for getting you through this difficult time. for me the worst issue here was being unable to read txt messages and email.
while holding down alt press back or return (the key immediately to the right of the trackball) you can cycle through the running programs, release alt to select (in this case lets say you selected messages). now there are a few keys here to help you navigate.
T - takes you to the top (most recent).
P - "previous" goes down one day.
U - up, one at a time.
B - bottom.
when i did this i was able to look through and see what messages i got, but be warned, when going through the menu like this it will automatically skip messages you have allready read (at least it did to me!), that means you get one shot!
-- I have also found that moving the trackball by pressing it THROUGH a clean sheet of paper often helps remove the skin oils that cause this problem to begin with. Don't press hard but patiently keep moving to clean areas of the paper and your trackball might begin to perform better for you. The paper seems to clean the trackball and help it start contacting again.
i hope this helps more than some other answers i found out there.
