Their are several reasons as to why the internet light on the Embarq DSL modem is not coming on. One is the modem maybe in whats called Bridge modem. Which means it just translating DSL signal to a signal your PC can understand. The Firewall and routing of data have been disabled. Basicly the internet light means that modem is hold a ip address for the internet.
Other possiable issue is that maybe issue with Embarq Network.

Hello this is Cesar from Embarq Support Online. First you will need to check the availability of High Speed Internet on our web site: http://www.embarq.com/#internet Once you sign up and get your equipment you can follow these instructions to get it setup and ready to go. # Connect your Embarq 660 modem to a phone jack in the wall using the phone cord provided. # Connect the yellow/red cable from the modem to the Network Interface Device (NID) located in the back of your PC. # Connect the power supply cable from the modem to the AC wall outlet. # Install a filter in all the other appliances that connects to a phone jack around the house, such as: satellite receivers, caller IDs, fax machines and phones. # Turn on the 660 modem using the power switch located in the back of the modem and wait for the DSL light to turn solid green. # Turn on your computer, open Internet Explorer and follow the instructions on your screen. Tips and troubleshooting, If you do not get the DSL light in the modem make sure you check the service due date and make sure you DSL has been activated. Usually we activate your account at the due date no later than 7pm. You can verify if you account has been activated by calling our National Customer Status Center 1-877-677-7596. If you r account has been activated but the DSL light does not come on the modem, unplug everything inside the house and turn your modem off and back on. If the DSL light comes on that means that you have a defective filter and needs to be replaced. If the DSL light does not come on after you unplug everything inside the house, then take the modem, phone cord and power supply and connect the modem into a different jack in a different room in the house. If you still do not get the DSL in the modem, please let me know and I will be happy to check the provisioning for your account and dispatch a technician if one is needed. Thanks P.S. laptops and computers dont come with modems. They come with wireless adapters that are essentially the same for both laptop and desktop, that can connect to modems. If you have a purchased usb modem for your laptop, that is what is accessing the internet. If you do not, the modem, say at Starbucks, is accessing the internet for you...and you are connecting to it.
Make sure all of the wires are secured and plugged into the modem. Then, turn your modem off for at least 10 seconds, then it turn it on. If this does not solve the problem, then try contacting your ISP (Internet service provider) to get assistance.
A modem is a piece of hardware in which you plug a phone line into to connect to dial up internet access. PCI is simply the cards interface, in your situation it's a card that gets plugged into a PCI slot on your motherboard.
No, it comes with a router that connects to your modem
Your question presupposes that you have subscribed to cable internet service, and that the provider has run a cable to your home. It also presupposes that you have a cable modem. If these suppositions are correct, you just have to run coax between the cable jack on the wall and the cable modem. Then you need to connect the modem to your computer via USB, FireWire, or whatever interface your modem and computer have in common. FriPilot
No, generally not. Most newer laptops come with a built in network card and wireless network, but many laptops come without a modem. If you have a broadband connection, like ADSL (over the phone line) or cable (over the cable TV connection), you will normally get the modem from the ISP.
Yes. You need a high-speed internet connection to use Skype. This may come from a cable internet modem, but it might also come from a DSL line (from the telephone line) or a high-speed wireless connection.
They don't come with it but they do come with a cable to hook it up to a modem, or if you have a wireless connection, you can buy an adapter at a local Microsoft retailer and connect it to wireless internet.
It depends on model. Some modems come with a wireless router. If yours has wireless interface, you will able to connect your computers wirelessly. Usually what you have is a modem with one LAN port. If you want to connect your 3 computers to the same modem you need to get a wireless router. It will allow you to connect your computers using wireless or cable. Switch in such case might not work because of internet provider policy.
a ps3 does not come with a wireless router It comes with the ability to connect to a wireless router or modem or with an ethernet cable. No other kind of internet connection to the PS3 is possible. For instance you would not be able to plug something into the USB port to use for an internet connection.
I am assuming the "internet port" you are talking about is the phone jack in the wall of your house? If that is the case, the ethernet cable that comes with your 360 needs to plug into your modem or router which in turn plugs into your "internet port" in the wall of your house. So essentially it goes: wall-mounted phone jack> internet modem or router (most modems come with wireless routers built in)> XBOX 360. Hope this helps.
