The international dialling code for the Netherlands is +31. Individual cities have their own area codes. For more detailed information - see the related link.
Within the Netherlands, the area code can be dialed with the trunk prefix 0 instead of the country code +31. For example, Amsterdam is 020 within the Netherlands, or +31 20 in international format. Amsterdam and other cities have 7-digit local numbers; smaller towns have 6-digit local numbers but one more digit in the area code. For example, Terschelling is 0562 (or +31 562) with 6-digit local numbers.
(The plus sign means "insert your international access prefix here." From a GSM mobile phone, you can enter the number in full international format, starting with the plus sign. The most common prefix is 00, but North America (USA, Canada, etc.) uses 011, and many other countries use different prefixes.)
