They don't always. Blogs are notorious for having opinionated rants. And that isn't what you want when you are trying to do serious research. However, sometimes you'll come across an expert in the field who has a blog and who posts information, and tells where he or she gets it. Then, you can learn some from the blog, and go to those other sites to do further "serious" research. Be careful, especially if you are doing a paper for school. Many teachers and professors won't accept a blog as a reliable source of information, and they should be examined carefully before you use anything on a blog as fact. As with anything on the internet, be skeptical first. Blogs are more for fun than for research, and although sometimes you can pick up great stuff, try sticking to more reliable sources before you turn to the sometimes more colorful information you find in Blogs.

If you start blogging you usually write about certain topic. In order to draw attention and audience, you should be good at what you write about. Moreover, the more you write the more you will need to learn and become an expert in the field so you can bring some value to your readers.
