not sure but what I can tell you is that I got a letter in march of 2013 that said I was on top and I needed to take additional information in and then I will be called in to recieve my voucher once they ran the info. Well I did as they asked and I am still waiting to go to that meeting so I can recieve the voucher. This is the middle of june, so it been almost 4 months and counting. I was actually on section 8 before and it never took more than 2 months to recieve my voucher.

Can you apply for section 8 twice?

Yes, and many people do this for valid reasons. They may find it difficult to port their original voucher to the new jurisdiction, so it is not uncommon for voucher holders to have their names on the waiting list in other jurisdictions where they can jump to that jurisdiction and use its voucher as opposed to porting their original voucher. You might want to check with that Housing Authority to see if you can use your original voucher to port over to them: they may absorb the cost. If you do apply for the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP, formerly the Section 8 Program) anywhere, while you already are in another, you will need to give up the voucher of the old program first. I highly suggest you talk this over with your original Housing Authority as they can help you better through this means.

Can you accept a section 8 voucher in one state while waiting for one in another?

Surprisingly, yes you can! You can be on as many waiting lists you want to be for a Housing Choice Voucher, formerly known as the section 8 voucher. You can wait for in one state while you are holding a voucher in another. This is generally a strategic move because although you have the ability to port a voucher to another state, the Housing Authority that issued your voucher can claim it cannot afford to port you to the other state. This often happens when you want to move from a rural state -- where there is often no transportation system, medical centers, or other convenient facilities -- to a jurisdiction that does have these conveniences but are often more expensive than the rural area from which you want to move. To port a voucher, the receiving Housing Authority must agree to absorb the costs of such porting or the issuing Housing Authority must agree to be billed by the receiving Housing Authority. So waiting for another voucher might be a good choice in your case. However, you probably already are aware that you can only hold one voucher at a time, so when the other Housing Authority issues your voucher, you will have to let go of the original voucher. Make sure that you make this transition as smooth as possible (in other words, do not burn the bridges behind the original Housing Authority). You may want to check with the Housing Authority that has you on their waiting list to see if they will absorb the cost of porting, or check with your issuing Housing Authority to see if they are willing to be billed, so that you may not have to wait on the waiting list anymore.

When would you receive your section 8 vouchers?

If your name is on the waiting list, it will advance as a voucher becomes available to the next family. When your name comes up you will be notified by the Housing Authority to which your name was added to the waiting list, provided you kept them updated with your information -- in writing. A packet of forms will be sent to you to fill out, and you will send them such completed forms and provide them with the necessary information they requested along with the completed forms. You will then be given an appointment date at which you will be interviewed. Your information will then be verified, and if accepted, you will be given another date on which you will pick up your voucher. You then have 60 days to find a rental unit that has been approved for your family or the voucher may expire. In most cases you can ask for an extension.

What does the section 8 housing list consist of?

Section 8 housing is a government program that helps low income or even the homeless find affordable housing. Many people apply to get the subsidy the voucher program offers in Section 8, which results in a waiting list to get housing from participating landlords.

Can you get section 8 twice?

This doesn't make sense: why would the same person want section 8 twice? Please explain your situation and resubmit the question, and I'll be glad to answer it. But the general rule is that you may only hold one voucher at a time. Let's say, for example: you are on a waiting list of a different Housing Authority from the one that issued you a voucher, and is not likely that the issuing Housing Authority is going to allow you to port to the new jurisdiction because it is more expensive. So you allow your needing to remain on the other waiting list and it comes . If this happens you would have to let go of the first voucher and use the second one.

Can you keep your section 8 voucher in nc if you get a felony?

Every Housing Authority has their own guidelines by which they select section 8 voucher holders. The general rule is that with the exception of of the manufacture of methamphetamines and offenses for which one must register as a sex offender backspace, which permanently forbid felons under those categories to hold a section 8 voucher, most housing authorities have a five-year waiting period for most other felonies. Some housing authorities' waiting periods maybe longer or permanent, while others may be more lax.
