Go to Menu> Settings> Display Setting> Shortcut Bin: On. Now when you drag the icon on the main screen over the bin expand arrow, it should become a trash can so you can dump it. Once you have removed the icons you can turn the shortcut bin off again. It'll still come up if you tap the home screen once.
