How do you remove an old one piece surround tub-shower unit from the bathroom?

Unless you are trying to save it, you'll probably have to cut it into pieces to get it out. Most likely your tubshower unit is acrylic coated fiberglass. You'll never get it out of your bathroom in one piece. It won't fit through the door. 1. Depending on how the edges are finished, you'll either have to remove the trim around the edges and or break away the drywall edge (they often drywall over the edge of the tub. 2. Remove the shower valve trim, drain and overflow trim, and shower head. 3. Remove the screws holding the tub in position (they will be hidden by the wood trim or drywall. 4. Using a reciprocating saw with a wood blade, carefully cut the tubshower into pieces to carry out, being careful not to cut Plumbing or electrical lines which may be concealed behind the tub. Make sure you wear gloves, eye protection, and a sanding respirator would be a good idea for the fiberglass dust. Or, you can call a plumber and take a nap while the work is done for you!
