Only WikiAnswers Supervisors get @WikiAnswers.com e-mail addresses at this time. The reason why is because supervisors need a way to communicate with fellow supervisors. So that way they can not have their message board clogged up. If you see a supervisor telling you his/her WikiAnswers email address then you can use it to ask him/her a question that you want to ask him/her personally without talking on the message board about that. Also all of the WikiAnswers email use supervisors usernames except when if they have a Space in there username or a _ or a . remove it and put user . name @ wikianswers . com (remove the spaces) this is how all of the Supervisor email is like.
WikiAnswers email is not available to the community-at-large at this time. Message boards are the primary mode of communication between contributors, though some users do communicate from their own personal email addresses.

Why can you not set up your WikiAnswers email on your iPhone?
Not sure... you should be able to. I have mine set up on my iPhone. If you have a WikiAnswers account (only given to supervisors), make sure your email is set up as (whatever your username is)@wikianswers.com. I didn't have to do anything special to set mine up... just put in my email and my password, but if you need the mail server info, that should be the regular gmail information (like smtp.gmail.com), and wouldn't have "wikianswers" in that part of it.

An email address is required when signing up on WikiAnswers because if a Community Assistant wants to contact you privately, they will send you an email. They may also send you an email for a number of different reasons, but it is to keep information only needed to be read by you away from the public eye.

there is a setting in your email account set-up that automatically saves every address when opening email, this was a problem I had and drove me crazy. So...I went to my set-up and and disabled the autosave on contacts. Hope that helps.
