If you are on the desktop version of Gmail, in Settings there are desktop notifications when an email comes in. Toggle that on, and it will notify you regardless where it ends up. On the mobile version, you can toggle on notifications, and you can also toggle on action notifications to confirm with you if you want an email deleted, archived, or sending out.
